Thank you, really helpful. Just one correction. At 43:30, 4 to the power of 3 multiplied by 4 to the power of 5 does not equal 8 to the power of 8, it equals 4 to the power of 8. 4 to the power of 3 is 64 and 4 to the power of 5 is 1024. 64 multiplied by 1024 is 65536 and 4 to the power of 8 is 65536. 8 to the power of 8 is 16777216. I think you meant to say this as you said the bases must stay the same. All and all a great video thank you so much.

Such an amazing video! Thank you so so much! I've been looking for these lessons everywhere on youtube and this is perfect! It goes straight to the point, and teaches everything slowly and transitions into the next steps very smoothly. And in addition to that, the video has everything that I'm looking to learn ALL packed in a one hour lesson! I'm so happy. Halfway done watching this video and I finally understand what my math teacher was "teaching me" for the past 2 weeks. Will definitely finish watching, and come back to this channel if i ever need more information. I rarely write comments like this on videos, but you truly helped me and are saving me from failing my test in less than a week. Thank you so much sir!

7:21 I thought when you flip a fraction the signs are switched so when you flipped 1/x^-4 to x^4, why wasn't the 1 on the bottom -1?
@marcschroter
@marcschroter 3 жыл бұрын
If you made the 1 on the bottom -1, then the (x^4) on the top would have to become (-x^4) as well. Maybe think of it as 1^0. The sign of the exponent of the variable switches, the sign for x remains the same.

For people stuck on why 3 to the -3 power became a fraction. It's not -3 x -3 x -3 because it's not -3 to the 3rd power. So you basically turn it into a fraction to put 1 on top over the result of 3x3x3 positive so it's 1/27. 4 to the -4 power is 1/64 as another example

Real quick at 24:12 when you're explaining the problem, wouldn't you do the parentheses first, then the exponent? Because you get two different answers. Doing the parantheses first you get 9/4x^6y^64. Because -5-3=-8 so you end up with y^-8 put that on the bottom and raise it to the ^2 you get y^64
@WrathofMath
@WrathofMath 5 жыл бұрын
Good question, remember that when we square y^8 we're just multiplying y^8 by y^8. That means we have to add the exponents, so we get y^16, not y^64. It's a subtle difference in notation, but a big difference in result when we compare (y^8)^2 and y^(8^2), the second of which would be y^64. Does that make sense?
