I lived in a flat on the 4th floor with no lift. It was certainly tough getting the shopping and young kids up; needed to make sure when you went down to the gardens that you hadn't forgotten anything. We were young, but young people don't always have the money.

If he only widened that access path and made room for a couple of cars... that property has turned out beautiful... the other property with the penthouse is a prime example of developers no looking at improving the quality of life... a lift is essential in such old buildings and specially for a 3rd and 4th floor!

I like that with Tony floating the steel beams over the roof, he has made the stair climb up to the penthouse three more steps!! HA!!

Can you imagine buying an expensive penthouse without a lift, then breaking your leg so you couldn't even access it? Me neither.

Go Gareth! A humble, down-to-earth guy who wears baggy jeans turns out to have superb taste. The house is a triumph. He's sure to find a buyer who would find it an asset to hide away in this gem.

You can't have a penthouse without a lift. Rule number 1. Good lord. Anyway, it sold 10 years later for £640k and is now, unsurprisingly an Air B&B, cos nobody would want to actually live in it all the time with all those stairs.

I think someone who would buy an expensive penthouse isn't going to be a kid who doesn't mind dragging stuff up and down 4 flights of stairs. Buyers would expect an elevator. With that cottage, it's magnificent, but cold with no character left in what could have been a charming, unique, "cottage-y" yet modern house. Big mistake to put the hot tub instead of the turn-around platform.

The inside of the cottage has totally lost its cosy cottage feel.

I did too. It looks like a unique suburban development now. Cool, but there’s no sense of history left. Before it was a hidden gem of a cottage with potential. Also the driveway is a bit scary it needs a small stone wall by the house.
