It’s called a “land grab” which should be illegal!

So if tax dollars paid for it, tax money already collected from citizens, why is it being billed? That's not a tax, that's a fee or fine.

Sounds like a handful of people are responsible for this illegal land grab. Putting a name and a face to these people is the first step to fight against corruption. The next step is public awareness, hopefully someone takes this story viral. After that public outrage.

They are trying the same with their new lead pipe enforcement. They claim your house has lead pipes so they can condemn it. They do offer help but its only through loans via city contractors.

isn't this simple contract law? If there are any contracted supplies, they are to the person who owned the building, when the work was done. There's no contract between the city authority and the current owner, so no obligation to pay. The city could chose to remove the new roof, but they would have to restore the building to it's former condition and those materials were long since thrown away.

I can see the improvement of the buildings but overcharging homeowners, building owners, is a bit much. Especially, if the work being done is shotty work.

Na is people like elon and vivek that do this. The city contracts this and the private contractors are the ones doing this. Did you not pay attention?. If doge wants to be efficient they need to audit the contractors. 15k for a small Trash can for a pentagon office.

the way i see it this would be like taking out a loan in someone else's name and then fixing their property, and then saying you owe us this. And if you don't pay we are taking it away. a better use of the money would be for the city to use it to fix up properties they own and to sell those properties and maybe buy more properties to do the same

The public should have access to the tender process the Municipality undertook for the contractors.Where is the permit process for these houses. They should be inspected as soon as the work is completed and I am quite sure that an independent poperty inspector would never pass and this is required for to obtain an occupancy permit. I suspect that there is some theft going on here and the govt. could be involved. I would call for an independent audit of the work and the payments.

What an unfair practice. I do see and understand that some properties will never be repaired by the current owner and will only decay until they crumble. That said, maybe a better practice would be for the city to purchase these properties for a resonable price, have rnovation or demolition companies bid on needed work while ballancing the books so the taxpayers aren't strapped with any of the costs. Surely there would be some resistece to forced sales but this may be the best solution. Of course, not everyone would be happy with this, but at least there would be no total loss to anyone. Not an easy endevour but perhaps the only fair one for the owners and taxpayers.
@ClarityDetermination3 сағат бұрын
Perhaps someone, anyone could first have a conversation with the building or home owner. That'd be a good start.
