I’m in the same place. My situation is really painful mentally and emotionally every minute of every day it feels like. I had heard Hebrews 12:6 which says the Lord disciplines those He loves. I thought, “oh maybe I’m being disciplined by the Lord which means He is showing me His love and that this will one day end!” But then I got a scary thought: “What if He’s not disciplining me and this is just the result of all my sins?” The answer? Probably a mix of both. His discipline is to grow us and make us better. Not to punish us. Maybe He made some things happen, or maybe you caused it with your sin. But no matter what, everything that is happening is stuff that God is allowing to happen. But know this, “what the enemy meant for evil, God means for good”. The situation you’re in may feel hopeless. Mine does. But it’s not. God is trying to show you something. Don’t worry. He won’t give you more than you can bear (with His help). He will always give you a way out (Him). The point I’m trying to make: It doesn’t matter what caused this situation. It matters what you do with where you are at right now. You can’t change what got you here. You. Are. Here. That’s reality. This is where you’re at. Realize that God is trying to teach you something through this situation to make you better, and He truly has it all under control. How to know if you are under God’s discipline right now: 1. The situation is making you holier. - God’s trying to help you get rid of a sin in your life that’s holding you back 2. The situation is healing you - God is trying to use this situation to heal you of pain/trauma caused in the past 3. The situation is making you rely on God more - God is using this situation to help you rely on Him fully. You’re learning that you are powerless to fix it. You’re learning that nothing truly fulfills you. You are at the end of yourself. That’s what God wanted because He wants to give you something that’ll satisfy you more than anything: Him. Number 3 is the main point. God wants you to turn to Him. To trust He is in control even when you don’t see a way out. The other two points will work out if number 3 does. In the middle of your pain, turn to Him and say “God I don’t understand this, but I trust You. Help me trust You more. Help me believe You when you say you will work out all things for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. And I know that that is me because I have accepted Your Son Jesus as my Savior. I believe what the Bible says about Him and I want to be more like Him. Which means I love you and am called by You. You will work everything out for good.” Give it all to Him. Understand that He is disciplining because He loves you. Read Hebrews 12:6-13. Stop thinking “this situation is happening because I sinned and these are the consequences and God is mad at me.” Nope. God is disciplining you because He loves you. Suffering is so you can know Him more. Once you know Him more, He might fix the situation, or He might not. But you will experience a joy you never thought possible. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 Memorize it and repeat it over and over again. “Don’t lean on MY understanding. God is telling me that my understanding is flawed. But he understands something I don’t. I’ll lean on Him. I’ll keep trusting Him.” Memorize these as well and use them for strength in all hard thoughts: 1 Peter 5:6-7 2 Corinthian 10:5 Romans 8:28 Jeremiah 29:11 Joshua 1:9 Philippians 4:4-9, 13 Isaiah 40:31 Ephesians 3:20-21 Those are just a few I can think of right now. You’ll find more as you continue building your relationship with Him. I don’t exactly memorize all of them, but I do get the basic idea from them and repeat that to myself such as “submit every thought to Jesus”. So here’s your game plan: - Spend daily time with Him whether you feel like it or not. Trust He is there (Psalm 116:2 shows He always listens) - Trust that He is working in the background whether you see it or not - Submit every thought to Him - Use His strength. Not your own. If you fail, get back up. Pray for more strength. Pray you receive it. Keep going back to Him over and over and over again. (Combine Philippians 4:13 and Proverbs 24:16) - Remember that God is disciplining because He loves you and He wants you to have more of Him. Your part in all of this is to TURN TO HIM NO MATTER WHAT. No matter what you did, what you feel, what you think. Submit it all to Him and turn to Him. - Crucify your flesh. Fast. Pray. Even if for a day. Remember, every single thing that you are struggling with and every single thought (if you can think of it, it’s included), God has under control. God can handle it all. Whenever I get a thought about something that brings me negative emotion I say “God you can have this. I know you will work it out.” EVERY. THOUGHT. EVERY. SITUATION. Don’t say “but not this”, “not that”. It’s everything. God loves you. He will do this. Trust Him. Trust Him. Trust Him. It’s a fight. But through Jesus we are more than conquerors. I pray God blesses anyone who reads this and that they truly turn to Him. --------------------------------------- EDIT: I just want to add on to what I said about Him maybe not changing your situation. I didn't mean that He won't deliver you. He totally will deliver you. But sometimes we think our situation changing would bring us joy and then we can praise Him, which is not what we want to do. We want to praise Him now no matter what! He’ll change our hearts and our perspectives if we let Him, which will allow us to experience more joy than we thought possible (more joy than if He just changed the situation). So I don’t know exactly how God will deliver you, but I know that if you seek God every day, He’s going to flood you with a joy so strong and help you get through this stronger than ever! His will is going to happen in your life, and His will will be a better change to your circumstance than anything you could hope for. Keep seeking God for deliverance because He will deliver you. And just trust that no matter how the situation goes, He is still in control. Pray that God changes your heart to see what He sees and that His will happens in your life. And then trust that He knows better than you. His will is better than yours and mine. He knows what’s best for us. So that’s what I want. Look at Joseph, David, Daniel, and many more in the Bible. They had so many difficult circumstances. But they continued trusting in God, and they were delivered. God will deliver you. But when He does you'll find that the biggest blessing was the relationship you grew with Him. Trust God and praise Him in the pain. Watch what He'll do in your life.
