well some of the women use the man as a lifter, and others defer to him and he gets a special status and "heard" more by bosses. It just depends on the culture of the shift We have a few male nurses and CNA's and everyone gets along good where I'm currently working.

I looked at kaiser also but they also have a ASN program and a bsn program which sounds like what your looking at..if I were you to save money I would do all the pre requisites at a local college to save money since they can transfer to kaiser if you want to go there. Also I would go into the asn program since you can get to work faster and its only 16months...dont do your prerequisites at kaiser its more expensive. For example your chem,microbiology, anatomy 1 & 2, English, speech, etc etc. U can do that cheaper at a local college

I’m glad I found someone who can share a male perspective working in the field. Plus, you’re a double minority (Black and Male). I’m looking to go to nursing school in the future and this was definitely a breath of fresh air.
@Brandon-dg8zn
@Brandon-dg8zn 2 жыл бұрын
To everyone thinking of going to nursing school I say do it. Remember, each job has its pluses and minuses. All you have to do is concentrate on yourself and what you're doing and leave all the other bullsh*t behind. That and finding which field of nursing suits you best. Be helpful but not too much. Gotta look out for your back health. Critical Care, ER, and jail/prison nursing were some of the best areas I've worked. I now work pediatric home care (not allowed to work highly stressful areas anymore, had a military-related traumatic brain injury). Find your niche. If you're single and have a couple of years of experience try travel nursing. More money and more travel.

Man, the stories I could tell after being a nurse for 29 years. Friends of mine believe I'm blessed to work around all women....did I say the stories I can tell after 29 years? The worse is being a black male nurse, the discrimination, both racial and gender, both are equally bad, experienced both. I found out at one job that I was being paid less than the other nurses and I had more experience than most of them.

good video, I am a retired RN, when I started it was very different for men. I was hired first after school because I was a male, the Director said I'm hiring you because you can't get pregnant. Most of the time I felt like a human fork lift but like you I didn't mind. Some patients have requested me because I don't hurt or jerk them around when I move them. I have never noted the jealousy between males but more between females especially when one is promoted. My biggest complaint was my co-workers always referred to me as a male nurse, never RN. Men were differentiated in the profession. you never hear she's a female nurse, doctor or tech.

This was great, randomly popped up on my feed. Everything he’s saying is true there’s definitely a lack of male presence in nursing. We definitely respect the men. (Can’t speak for everyone) Men probably should be paid more because they will be seen as the muscle. * If you’re lucky you’ll have team players who balance out the work. There are many pts who decline male caregivers so it balances out in away. The cattiness is sad, and it’s the reason why some of us prefer to work with the men. Men are more quiet, and less drama. Men are also more logical than emotional, and tend to think quicker on their feet…

Well, I'm Chilean and I'm a head professional male nurse in a Public General Emergency Service with high demand for adults and children care (I work just with 12 assistants and 2 general physicians). I have always considered that macho concepts should be left out of our work, both in men and women. But there are also gender-specific features that allow and help the team to provide better nursing care for each specific patient. "Safe hands and affectionate treatment" requires study and permanent interest in being the best therapeutic aid, and being effective in achieving institutional objectives.

Are you a Registered Nurse with a BSN or a LPN? Most hospitals don't hire LPN's. Where did you attend nursing school? I wanted to be a RN when I was in high school in the 70's but I didn't have the grades in Biology and Chemistry to get accepted into nursing school. I attended and graduated from Howard University with a B.S. in Business Administration. Unfortunately, people tend to think all male nurses are GAY. I have encountered several gay male nurses but there are some straight male nurses. Things have changed since the 70's and the nursing profession has opened up for males.

I feel It’s not that men are jealous of each other, in fact because women have harder time hiding their feelings, you see women being jealous more often. I think it’s about the difference in sex and the fact that they don’t see you as a threat to their position or whatever, they Becker among themselves and leave you alone. Same way few females working in a male dominated field aren’t envied upon but rather liked, while guys be jealousing of each other.

Yes. Just like when women walk into a barbershop we have to hear sports and cars. It goes with the territory

@@astoldbymuriel103I’m not like either of y’all women or men. Sports and cars is boring. Talking about relationships is boring.

Buddy, take it from me. If you were to say ask, this & that you'd get more respect. It's not axe, dis & dat. MSN, RN here.

As a MSN, RN your study and expertise is in nursing. But I see you lack in the area of sociology and the understanding of intersectionality/regional development which then influences speech/accents/dialect. You have a MSN but you’re still ignorant. Go back to school for the sake of your patients, and maybe you can understand some of them more.
