Cincy is a secret, for now. We considered Raleigh - we got priced out. Cincy is where Raleigh was around 1999… by the time people know about it, it’ll be ridiculously expensive and those prices are rising. Relatively moderate weather by midwest standards, excellent school districts (in the expensive suburbs) and not a lot of traffic/overpopulation.

Cons: Very hard to meet people here (most people are from here and have friends from their childhood, they even ask you what high school you went to instead of which college/university). I grew up in Cincinnati, I left in 2012 to move to Seattle where my brother was living, and he convinced me to move. Seattle is great but it's no Cincinnati. I was 41 when I moved so Cincinnati is a part of my genetic makeup. The one thing I always tell people, who after finding out I lived in Cincinnati (and once they stop singing the WKRP theme song) is what was the best part about it. I would say that it was a mid-sized city with big city amenities. It's great, because it's not too big, but we are not left behind when it comes to the latest and greatest things a big city usually has. We are like a big city that wasn't full of itself in a sense. The people are great, always will be. It's beautiful, the river is great and my trips to Newport and Convington were great as well. The Bengals did make it to the playoffs in the 2000's but the QB got sacked/injured early on. We had high hopes, but the fill-in QB wasn't as seasoned as he could have been. I am not a huge sports fan, but I do enjoy going to games, but I'd be lying if I were to say I knew all the names :) I did sort of at the time though. After I moved, they started getting better, and like you said they made the playoffs like five years in a row. Seattle is a huge sports town, in the same vein as Cincinnati. They are diehards and sometimes it's tough being a fan here as well. Though they did go to back-to-back Superbowls when I first moved here (or around then). I always say that when Seattle plays, I root for them UNLESS they are playing Cincy. However, if Cincy loses, then I am not as heartbroken as I would have been when I was living in Cincy. It's kind of like my team didn't win but my second team did, if that makes sense. So, it takes some of the sting out of things. You forgot to tell everyone that we put the chili on spaghetti. Everyone thinks I am mad until they taste it. Until Amazon Fresh started carrying Skyline Chili, I had to make do with Hormel. Not the same, but kind of made it less unbearable. Also, I remember in grade school, and we would all love it when we got chili spaghetti for lunch. Though it was a bit crazy hearing a bunch of fourth and fifth graders getting excited about a three way. lol. It's like "awesome, we're having a three way today!!" Oh, to be young and innocent again :) I do miss the main Public Library location. I used to do a lot of writing there and I did a lot of reading/researching things just for fun. I learned a lot about history and old Hollywood and old Comic strips that way. Cincinnati had so many options and so many activities you could do even if you were broke (which is how I grew up). I lived in Over-the-Rhine back in the 70s until about 94 then moved to College Hill and then off to Colerain Twnshp. So many great memories. And going to Sawyer Point and walking along the Serpentine Wall are memories I will always cheris.

within the actual city, transportation is relatively nice and there is a free streetcar. However, you cannot get very far outside of the city or to any of the nearby neighborhoods

Many great suburbs, townships, and villages on the 275 loop. So many things to do around and inside that loop, as well. Many great golf courses to play.

The restaurants! People who visit here from out of town can’t wait to eat at Frischs, Montg. Inn, Skyline, Aglamessies, etc.. Family in for visits want to go to Frischs before they even unpack!!

another great thing is in northern Kentucky and mostly Covington there's a big football and cheer community for children. I grew up in Covington and did cheer for years and met a bunch of amazing people and we always had a lot of fun especially with the Tiger Bowl (it's basically like the super bowl but with every age group) and rain or shine we play and cheer and the football and cheer community actually help the community a lot with different things either being fundraising for the homeless or at risk people or community service and volunteering to help different people. it also helps single parents be able to work later because it's after school and no matter your situation the parents and organizers are willing to help you out weather it be you need someone to pick your kid up from school to get them to practice or you can't afford to buy new cleats and they either have an old or extra pear that your kid can have

The thing about living from Hamilton down is half the time the weather is wrong, it could say "rain starting soon" and then it's like 20 percent humidity, it could also be the opposite. Also, the city is nicknamed Porkopolis so there are a lot of good places to eat, my favorite out-of-town restaurant is probably Fords Garage in Norwood And we went to the super bowl in 2022 go Bengals!

Best Pro IMO is the cost of living here. I'm able to visit any city i want due to the affordable housing here. CON weather just sucks in general. but doesn't sound like coastal living is all that great anymore.

A con for me about the weather in Cincinnati, is you can literally never tell what the weather will be because it changes every minute and does some drastic things, lol

Wonderful review ~ Having moved to Cincinnati from Louisville 20 years ago; I can agree with most of the Pros in your comments, especially the terrific view of the city while traveling north through the Cut in the Hill... and while we're in that area, no one can deny that the Brent Spence is not only horrible, it is dangerous as well. I very much disagree with the comments about public transportation. When I move to the city (Delhi), I did not have a car, was attending Cincinnati Community College and relied on the Metro; in my opinion, it was nearly perfect... at least for my needs. Certainly agree that the Streetcar is a waste of money. In some ways, Cincinnati reminds me of Louisville: friendly people, generally a laid-back atmosphere... and a metropolitan region with a 'small town feel'. Thanks for the presentation. I am now subscribed

If you don't know the bridge, the exits, and the path that you need, it is dangerous. It is more of a struggle coming north, than going south. It is tight, narrow, and you better know what lane you need before you get to the bridge.
@nickphillips21252 жыл бұрын
@@schwarry1 I agree. After using the bridge for 20 years, I'm familiar with how to deal with the traffic... however, there or thousand of vehicles per day driven by people who are not familiar with the bridge making an effort to navigate

Now THAT is a pro I can agree with. I was a frequent flyer as a kid, then passed the torch to my younger daughter. When she was 16, she was playing blindfolded Marco Polo and ran fast as she could into a tree. I took her to Children's- again. 5 serious looking docs had her in a huge neck brace. She had a couple cuts on her face and one side was swelling up. They were asking her questions like did she hit the windshield? And she would just give them a confused look. Finally, one of the docs asked was she wearing a seat belt. Finally she's like "oh I wasn't driving. I actually RAN into a tree." I saw the smirks as they started looking at each other over her mangled body. Three of them dramatically turned away, snatching off their gloves, shaking their heads. 🤣 On the way out, one came back and said "I knew I've seen you before. Listen, when you feel the urge to say to your friends "hey! Watch this!"- DON'T DO IT!!! Wise words.

Commenting here on February 3rd, 2023 feels awesome knowing what the Bengals would begin doing in just a few short months. I get that y'all lost the AFC Championship this year, but come-on, the Bengals have been an objectively fun team to follow the last 2 seasons and have massive potential for the near future. And I'm not even a Bengals fan!

I totally agree that it is the last cool place that is affordable. It reminds me of Portland, Oregon at the Turn of the Century. Tons of DIY arts scene, wish more national bands came through, but there is great bands in Cinci. West Price Hill doesn't get enough love, I had the best tacos I have had outside of San Antonio there. As someone from Philadelphia, your public transit is not that bad. Actually I was impressed. While it is mostly busses they show up on time. You can find out to the minute when the next bus is going to show up (something SEPTA sadly lacks). I wish they ran at least one bus after closing time at least from the Northside to Downtown it would make it much easier to attend shows.

My husband and I are contemplating moving to Cincinnati …. We have a pet domesticated mini goat (she really is quieter/behaved better than most dogs) and have read that there is no ordinance against having goats as backyard pets…. Do you know where I could find more information on that?

Easiest way would be to call the zoning departments of the areas you would consider. I do have some friends with goats. 🐐

If you move anywhere in the Western half of Boone County you won't encounter any goat issues, same for Southern Kenton/Campbell.
