I lived in Guelph for 18 years from 1992 to 2010. I liked it initially then decided ive had enough. Getting around is ridiculous. For a green city you spend way to much time sitting at red lights. You get one, you get them all ,all the way down the road. Changing 4 lane roads to two lane roads. No overnight parking on side streets in the summer. Cat licenses. Higher property taxes. 2010 was paying $3200 /year for a 2 bedroom semi bungalow. Moved out , bought a house twice the size and paid only $2800 / year in kitchener. Snow plows that come the next day after a snowfall of 10 -15 centimeters. Then come twice when there is no snow on the road at all ,sparks flying off the blade. The sidewalk plow digging up your lawn. Then the crime. Had my house broken into. Police did absolutely nothing even though i had a suspect and they left blood on the window getting in. Told me i should go to the pawn shops to look for my stuff. Never mind going downtown with all the weirdos hanging around outside the banks asking for money. Sometimes threatening you. Not going back.

We can certainly appreciate your comments. If you are like most people, you’ll agree that each person in all the different neighborhoods of Guelph have their own stories to share. We’re all unique that way. We get lots of calls from people wanting to move to Guelph!

Interesting that no mention of our hospital. Growing population and the hospital is at the breaking point. If I was a new comer I would want to know that. Great hospital, but we need a new one.

Everybody knows everybody? Uh, no. It hasn't been like that since the early- to mid-1970s. I was there from 1967 to 2009 (minus a few years in Toronto and Kitchener). Looks like several tall buildings went up since I left. Wow. But Guelph has craploads more cons than you are admitting to. And unless you work for the university or one of the labs, there aren't a lot of "career" jobs there. At least there weren't; I'm happy to be wrong about that.

​@@livinginguelphontario To be fair, far too many Canadian cities have fallen prey to the incompetence which underpins today's green agenda and nebulous virtue activism. Guelph unfortunately is the poster child of everything wrong with ideologically infused city councils. I've lived in Guelph for 50 years and seen it go from idyllic to chaotic. All that's missing is an LRT from St George's Square to the Manor Hotel. It depends on what side of common sense one is on.

When I left Guelph 15+ years ago the downtown party night riots were so bad that cops refused to show up.
