I’m from Philly. The biggest cons for me are all the New Yorkers moving down here driving up our cost of living and traffic, all the development sucks, but outside of that I love my area. Yes, Philly drivers can be aggressive but I find that to be the case in most East Coast cities. Funny about Wawa parking lots because I go to Wawa a lot and I noticed that most ppl are actually nice in the parking lot because most ppl already know it may get messy, lol!! Another thing I love about my area is the weather is temperate and we don’t really get any natural disasters. We have great soil if you like to garden and you really could homestead and live off the land. Not off grid, they ain’t gonna let you do that. And you are correct about the PA turnpike tolls. They use to be affordable but I guess with more and more ppl moving here, they jacked the price up. But, I chose to come back home years ago because Philly WAS in the cut. Not so much anymore. It’s great for the city but not for natives like me. 😂😂😂

How do you handle the boredom of the Philadelphia suburbs? I drive by there sometime is it a notice that there’s no sidewalks at all in certain places, most fun thing to do out there looks like to drive from your house to the nearest strip mall. Zero chance of bike commuting or anything else that comes with a European suburbs. Is it boring out there?
@livinginphiladelphiasuburbs Жыл бұрын
While there are definitely places that are not easily commutable or lack sidewalks/paths, there are plenty of suburbs that provide those as well. I guess it just depends which suburbs you are referring to as there are so many that each accommodate different types of lifestyles. Choosing the right suburb for you and your family helps with avoiding boredom :)

I had to leave Philly in 2014 after living there for 32 years. I really do miss it though I've heard that it's changed, particularly the Northern Liberties/Fishtown area where I used to live where it's gotten much more dense.

Probably moving to the Philly area from the West Coast.. I wish you talked more about taxes, crime. As a new person to the area, that (and schools) are what I am most interested in

Hey Doug, I’m a young professional. Big eagles fan. Thinking Philadelphia might be a great place to move to. I’m looking for a safe suburb to live in that has a lot going on but is affordable. Looking for rent under $1300 which seems to be tough to find near Philadelphia. Are there any safe enjoyable suburbs you recommend that would work for me? Really appreciate it.
