Except for Southern Cal or Hawaii, and those places are very expensive and CA has fires, mudslides and earthquakes, but year round pleasant temps without humidity.

Yes being from NJ myself I had my fair share of ice, snow, and cold chilly weather. You want colder weather so fun to visit and then come back to warmer weather.

Re: Con: Traffic is growing. I am originally from NYC. I have lived in SRQ County since 2005.If you are thinking about moving to SRQ County, best you live between exit 205 to 179 on I75. University and Route 70's part of 75 is a nightmare. The author channel of this video may not like it but I would recommend anyone live in southern Sarasota County. It is a mad house to live in Sarasota city. Yes, all the major attractions are there, but better to travel to it than live in it. Nonetheless, I love living in Sarasota County. The west coast is the best and Sarasota County is the best of the west coast. You just do not want to live in the city of Sarasota. The growth/future is in Southern Sarasota County.

I live off of exit 207 and spend most of my time there or South. My mom lives more near 210 so when I spend time with family I am North.

I would recomend snowbirding...its nice to get away from the traffic and the heat of Florida..outside you sweat, get sunburned and get bit by the bugs all at the same time....people here miss mountains and wearing sweaters drinking hot chocolate, and sitting by the fire..they miss culture...scenery...waterfalls... cool crisp air...lol...and culture...

The percentage of oppressive humid heat days has been decreasing yearly. It was end of May till it started this year. Now only 4 months are tough for me. Now that I know how important daily sweating is to release our environmental toxins from the profit makers poisoning...I am grateful I took the years it required to acclimate. Windows open 7+ months out of the year is heaven to me. Looks like global cooling trend is helping our climate be even more perfect here in Sarasota. I am 64. Been here since High School. Better get here quick before nature disappears with our rapid growth to accommodate all the smart Billionaires that love it here!

The biggest CON of Sarasota (the July-Srpt heat & hurricane threat, though the latter is much less on the Gulf Coast than the Atlantic) can be alleviated by having a 2nd place (cottage or cabin) in a gorgeous place like upper New England, so you can get mountains and deciduous trees (with foliage co.ors in early Oct), and then enjoy FL the other 9 months. The beaches are great, lots of culture, and for parents, I am glad to see Sarasota has the #1 HS, as Florida schools are definitely a drawback, falling below most of the NE or upper MW states in that regard. Must be hard for kids to study, when so many outdoor distractions year round. I am not a surfer, but Atlantic coast is better for that. I wish there were better options (like a train or easy commuter flights) for cross state travel as Hwy 60 is dull and not a very pleasant 2-3 hours (to Palm Beach). Maybe there are some options I am not aware of, as I love both Sarasota/Tampa Bay and the Palm Beaches.

No...its flat...the ocean is like a big lake...after going to the beach 3 or 4 times...your done...ready for something more...summers here are like being snowed in but you sweat ( stinky)...then the bugs bite you while you sweat and get sunburned...

North Port is a bedroom community of Sarasota. It's certainly cheaper to buy a home there, but for good reason. It's growing, but there's not much infrastructure there, and forget about culture or charm. It's just a developing town of single family homes, many on roads they laid there 50 years before they put up any homes. To me, it's boring, and most people who live there are either retired, or have to commute 45 minutes each way to Sarasota for work anyway. Why would ANYBODY move to Sarasota, just to live in Northport?
