@ChiefSpookyFish4 жыл бұрын
@@mustangrt8866 It's what the little hole is designed for, and if you fill it correctly the flint is not stored in the fuel. I class it into 3 categories now obviously there are many in between and beyond. Zippo, Bic and matches. Zippo is my favorite, good windproof flame, tough design, love the click, great as a smoker. Bic, cheap, lasts for a long time and a flame when you need one. Matches, cheap, and of course these dont run out until the box or book is done. Ive had weeks with others but years with a zippo. No lighter can come close to replacing it.

(not sure if already mentioned in comments) a simple solution to stop it leaking fluid onto a surface when refilling is to flick up the piece opposite to the striker wheel and then turn it upside down and it will slide into the case, so any fluid leaking will stay at the bottom of the case and can get absorbed by the cotton after a few uses.

i believe that everyone at the very least should have owned a zippo. even if you arent a smoker, you can still utilize it. The staple of the lighter in itself is so synonymous with the history of our country just as much as the lever-action rifles are. i cant think of any lighter that you can use that is good for the environment (due to less waste, you can recycle the fuel tins), and you can just get new parts should you need them. i think it also teaches you carefulness and patience when using just a zippo. the brass one looks really nice though, i might just pick up a solid brass one on amazon while im out on my trip. i managed to snag a free collectible harley davidson zippo with it's tin from my neighbor who left it in one of the drawers of his throwaway things. i dont even bike. take care of your things and they will take care of you :D

The biggest con for me personally is that there is no real warning that your low on fuel many times I’ve been out and about and it’s ran out on me and I’ve opened it up and can still smell fuel but it won’t light, disposable lighters you can sometimes get one or two last lights out of one before it’s totally empty (enough to light your cigarette till you can get a new lighter anyway) but still, wouldn’t change my zippo for anything else, something charming about the fact they are still made in usa aswell and haven’t moved production abroad like a lot of companies do!

When did they first come out?? I have my grandads old one and it looks a little more chunky than these and far more ancient, the face plate says Zippo in fine etched writing

Around ww1. You can date a zippo by looking at the insert, just google "how to date a zippo"

I live in a part of Canada where temperatures drop well below -40 Celsius in the winter months. A regular Bic lighter will stop working properly at around -25 and will have to be held against the skin to warm up and repressurize. I've never had a Zippo fail to light due to the cold. It will even light when it's a bit wet - such as during heavy snowfall.

Hey, does the zippo smell bad, when you put it in your pocket because of the lighter fluid evaporating?
@josephrios72205 жыл бұрын
to my knowledge the only way for a zippo to smell is if you over fill it and drips in your pocket but when its evaporating it doesnt have any smell to it and if it does its unnoticeable

You can buy it in bulk online, otherwise hardware stores I guess.

Not sure what you have there but i have been super happy finding fuel meant for small 4-stroke engines such as lawnmowers. I get it 2 €/liter instead of the 20+ €/liter for real lighter fluid, and it's just as good as the real one except it evaporates even faster. At that price though i'm happy to refill the lighter more often. Americans have some Coleman camping fuel or something that works for them.

Hello mate how would I go about contacting you in regards to identifying a gas mask? Cannot find this mask anywhere on the internet. For sale or in any collections, was kind of hoping you might have one? I could email a few photos of the mask if you're willing?

You'd have to post photos on an image sharing site and then link them in a KZbin comment, I don't have a private contact for regular comments.

I've tried that before, most other fuels don't work very well.
@wagstag892 жыл бұрын
I think for the price of a bic or a basic Zippo there's no reason not to own both. The bics are dependable and have a much longer shelf life but Zippos perform better in wind and can be rebuilt with everyday items like cotton and can run on different fuels. You can even use the flint from bic lighters in a Zippo. Back when I used to smoke there were many times where I had lost all of my bics so I'd grab an old Zippo add a little fluid and be back in business.
