Most animated films use cgi or stuff that can make animating easier cause of how hard it is to do 2d animations but there is still alot of cartoons that is animated like this other than anime. Here's my theory, It's kinda wacky but still... The killer is capable of shape-shifting. He was originally a man which would make sense based on his proportions right up until the mask reveal. But after killing the girl, he took her form and their appearances sorta got "swapped". That's why there's a body of a man instead of the girl even though she died. And the reason why the killer isn't wearing the girl's dress is because he only swapped appearances and not clothing.

Oh, man, that puts me in mind of, like, a semi-immortal supernatural being who keeps their own life going by killing someone in order to literally take their life, and perhaps this one has been doing it for so long they’re becoming more ashamed (wearing a mask so their victim can’t look them in the eye) but also more unhinged and committing increasingly violent murders.

My interpretation: The first bit is metaphorical while the last bit is literal. Whoever the body is at the end, that person traumatized the main girl is some fashion (abusive partner, bully, assailant, whatever), figuratively killing her. The main girl then literally kills them in an act of revenge.

Must not've been his. But no, not sure who the corpse at the end is. They aren't wearing a black shirt, like the girl who was running was. She was fair-haired with a black shirt, and the body had a light shirt with dark hair. Perhaps it is just the art style, but the two girls look pretty close together. Could've been been her (the butcher) defending the black-shirt girl from something/someone else (maybe even Ross! Probably trying to get her to try out his MM2 World..) Very very cool guys.

It was neat how they just gravitated towards that just because the murderer has to be more weighty and deliberate. It really makes the murderer a force of nature that the panicking person is justified from running from. Likewise, the girl being on 2’s and 3’s sells her panic from this merciless person. There are so much things to consider about animating, and never had I had such a good case study such as this for how frame timing plays into this (and possibly Into The Spider-Verse, but I only saw the outcome and not why 4’s may be preferable to 2’s and 3’s and vice versa).

I cannot believe that this extremely realistic animation was made in Gartic Phone. A funny drawing game. It shows that you can make so much out of one game.

This was actually the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. This felt so groundbreaking in its ambition, and I can’t believe how well coordinated everything was handled. Just incredible work! You guys could actually form an animation studio if you wanted to! Amazing!

I’m going to learn to animate soon, and surprisingly, this video was pretty helpful lol. Basically a real-time step by step process of how each drawing comes together. One of the most helpful things was how they did the pacing by tracing the image before so it holds for longer. (I used to think animators just paused their video for a little bit and sped it up on parts they wanted to show fast movement lol)
@m_artroom2 жыл бұрын
Okay this is late but there’s kind of a way to do this. It’s called animation on twos, or three, or so where basically you have the same image stay on screen for multiple frames

The fact that you all did this in Gartic Phone, of all things to use for animation... I feel blessed on this Halloween. I'm so happy that Gartic Phone got you back into art and animation, and that you brought in so many skilled people to make a fantastic short film! SO MUCH LOVE to everyone who worked on this.

My headcanon is definitely about the girl having an internal fight with herself since both the victim and killer have the same face. This fight leads to the "killing" of a personality/bad memory due to something, the killer in this story is the "present self"/the "current self" while the victim is the "old self". The dog mask has a special role to this storytelling and the hand shaking (52:57) as she is a little bit remorseful for killing her past self. And sorry in advance if there is any error because i'm not a native speaker. Interpretation 1 : *The girl is changing herself for the future.* Everyone experienced this including me that is why I interpreted it like this, both the dog mask and the victim could be the girl's childish nature. The killer is killing the past self, the childish nature, because it's not important anymore or becomes a hindrance in the eye of the girl when growing up. The killer wearing the mask could be interpreted as if she is mocking the victim/her past self to be so childish in this age and time, the killer then drops the mask with the "victim's" body so her childish nature will be truly left behind. Additionally the hand shaking could be interpreted as, "is this really the answer?" as her childish nature could be her true self instead something that she's trying to become. Interpretation 2 : *The girl is burnt out.* Doing something you love over and over again will make you hating it, the dog mask/killer here could be interpreted as the girl's hobby and the victim as the "feeling" that enjoys doing the hobby. Because of repetition, the same hobby that makes the girl happy becomes something that is just... eh. Making it not fun anymore. Interpretation 3 : *The girl is overcoming her breakup.* Saying goodbye to the person that you love is always painful, the dog mask/killer here could be interpreted as the girl's trust and or cheery nature while the victim is herself and her ex. the first half the victim has the same face as the killer, this could say that she is blaming herself for falling in love with her ex. the second half when the victim died, it could signify the victim laying on the floor is now the ex and the "death of the victim" is "forgetting the ex". then the killer left her mask near the body as if to "leave behind" that feeling so that she will never easily trust other people again. The supporting evidence is on 52:50 and 53:11, where the killer took out the heart (like y'know heartache heartbreak) and the victim hair color changed from white to black this could signify the ex's hair color. well that is surely long, I should have done my college essay than writing this lmao

Hot take; while it's graphic it can easily be interpret as a metaphor for trauma. The forest represents the world, the house represents the home/safety. Since both characters are so alike we can interpret it as they're the same person prior and after an event. MC seeks safety and comfort at home, but home can't guard you from the pain of life. The dog mask character entering the house by chipping away at the door can be translated to anxious anticipation of pain, maybe deadly sickness. We see a heart fly across the screen during the chopping scene, and while it could be literally about a heart I interpret it as heartbreak. After the murder, the dog mask is placed at the corpse and the main character is revealed again, now with white hair which can be a sign of stress/age. Putting that trait into the perspective of trauma it's easy to see that she grew up too fast. In summary, I believe that this animation can be read as a girl losing her childhood dog to sickness, it breaks her heart and gives her trauma. Possibly because the dog wasn't put out of it's misery in a humane way. Incredible animation, I have so much respect for the team and Ross for making this. You're all an inspiration.

i initially thought the fact that she wen't in for the slash then kinda hesistated was kinda lame but when in context of the lore of the BG it makes sense that she'd hesitate as written in the lore book 1023 it understood that any pain give by BG to the victim will transfer over to her for that moment and understanding how this is only victim 4 of the doppelgangers in the 3 alternate universe I entirely understand why she isn't used to dying or "transferring" the 3 lore book states

the confidence that you get by showing off and also the fact that people will appreciate your further hard effort is far more motivating to continue than taking a break, because 70% of the times, during the break people may lose motivation and drop off, so doing something off topic that the artist like, like using their own art styles, it will keep them also motivating.
