We drove from Dublin to Rock of Cashel, Blarney, Killarney, Dingle and Cliff of Moher back to Dublin in four days. I'd say the best of the road trip is the road quality - most roads are well maintained without potholes. We were so impressed! The worst is the shared local lanes - we drove part of the Slea Head in Dingle to see the Dunquin Harbour without knowing how challenging it was. When we saw an oncoming car (or worse a big tour bus), we often had to back up to find and pull into a little pocket/shoulder on left side. How did the Irish manage to do it successfully all these years?! If I were rich, I'd hire someone drive me there. But a driver is very expensive in Ireland!

There are some roads in Ireland that could be described as challenging! I image that you referred to the Connor Pass , a favourite of thrill seekers ! Hope you enjoyed it .

@@conwaynoel3715 No, it is not the Connor Pass. We are just tourists, not thrill seekers. With a couple of children in the car, we had no intention to risk their lives. We were on the famous scenic Slea Head Drive, part of the Ring of Kerry (I think).

Hello! Do you know if there’s any sort of train passes / cards within Ireland or did you guys just buy point to point tickets?
@jimmyandbabstravels

We usually did point to point tickets, however there is a pass for the Irish Rail (Trekker pass is 4 consecutive days, explorer pass is 5 days out of 15days)

Yea, some roads are really narrow which is a nightmare if you are not used to it, add a manual transmission to that and its a recipe for trouble! Don‘t mean to put anyone off driving though, it‘s still manageable.

I think it would be a good experience for those who embrace such experiences. We were glad to have the train option. It might be a good balance to train from Dublin to Galway and then rent a car in Galway to explore western Ireland. Cheers and happy travels!

I am thinking about Ireland without a car visiting mostly cities did you struggle to get around easily once at your destinations?
@jimmyandbabstravels

Not at all, most of the cities are walkable or have public transit (buses, trains, bikes). Let us know where you plan to visit!

The logistics of traveling is one thing, having a good time is another. Probably the most important thing is meeting people. Like all cities Dublin has its problems but once you are in the smaller towns and cities you will find it very easy to get around and meet people who will be delighted to stop and chat with you. Meeting friendly people is what most visitors to Ireland comment on and enjoy.

Pros: Don't have to drive on unfamiliar, narrow roads Don't have to find/pay for parking, especially in cities Train system is efficient Renting a car is expensive Cons: Schedule limitations of trains and buses Limited routes, eg need a car for Wild Atlantic Way Harder to explore and do spontaneous things Motion sickness especially on buses

We agree! But also have to admit we love that the Wild Atlantic Way is less developed than the California coast!

Nice video. What websites did you use to purchase train or bus tickets?

We used Irish Rail if I recall correctly but there are a variety of websites you can buy it from. They all charge a small fee.
