I'm 25 and I've been playing badminton for more than 10 years now. And thanks to Michelle and Sophia, I've learned today that I'd absolutely get smacked off the court by 8 and 10 year old girls. For me it is absolutely impressive how high and long their clears are despite being so young and short. Amazing technique!

@@oceantsai9259 as a guy who has been playing for more than 20 years and have won several local tournaments, even I have doubts about beating these girls, especially the older one. It might not look threatening here (due to their cute child physiques), but if you're on the court it feels very different. Remember that they were playing against national players here and were giving them a pretty good fight. I've played against a 12-year old national champion here in Malaysia, and she reminds me of these kids, in fact these two girls look stronger and more consistent. Not to burst your bubble but even if you're a boy and have trained for an extra two years, I wouldn't be so quick to say that you're at the same level as them. It's not even close

I am Thai and a badminton coach myself. I am very impressed with them. If Badminton England keeps encouraging these children, I am pretty sure and very convinced that they will be internal players and making big impact to the badminton world. Their racket skills, speed, power, deceptions are far beyond players at their level. I must say, it is sad that badminton sport isn't popular in the UK, considering this is where it's originated. I've been to England few times and found that this sport is played almost every corner of the country, but the government doesn't seem to have encouraged (in term of promoting) much comparing the some sport like dart, snooker, pool. Badminton has been rarely televised, if it has it would have been only 45 mins the longest. Oppositely, to many asia countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Chaina. This sport will be televised for hours and hours. I remember, on my last visit to England, I kept seeing Dart Tournament on TV every day and for hours. I just jokingly said to myself, " Goodness! apart from not encouraging people to do exercise (like playing badminton), they (say the government, the medias) encourage people to drink a lot of beers! Anyway, I love this clip, both of you have been nice in encouraging young British.
@smartsquirrel15 ай бұрын
This comment needs pinning. Greg and Jenny have done more for Badminton in the UK in 4 years than Badminton England have. How this sport is so underfunded is shocking.
@peenoomlumkhong5 ай бұрын
@@smartsquirrel1 England used to have great player. Once was the leading country in Europe in Badminton. It is so sad to see country like France, Spain and The Netherland are about to surpass England. Also, the up-coming countries Belgium, Finland, Australia, Israel, Canada are about to be the same level as England. However, there is no one as good as Jill, the best badminton commentator in the world! 🙂
@omgwaffles095 ай бұрын
@@peenoomlumkhong It's weird you focussed on darts/snooker that is just a result of pub culture rather than government support. We are major powers in some of worlds most popular sports such as football, cricket, rugby and for minority sports we consistently come high up the medal table in the olympics. For minority sports, the root cause of badminton's lack of funding is olympic medals. Athletes and funding are pushed towards rowing/aquatics/cycling/athletics/martial arts where we are historically very successful. From a young athletes perspective, badminton is just not a good option for a career when there is so much better options available in terms of money/support here in the UK
