As far from civilization I have ever been and DISASTER! A tree almost takes off Dad's arm and pierces almost right through it. Prospecting can be dangerous. But can also be VERY rewarding. Check out these finds as Dad bleads through his field bandages.

Your dad has a high constitution score because he seemed to shrug off a gash that needed 10 freaking stitches. That's just badass! I think we found our barbarian or fighter for the next dungeons and dragons campaign! 🤣

I honestly can't get enough of the Family adventures. The best memories in life are created with good times in the outdoors with family. I wish my dad would have had a KZbin channel so I could go back and watch the glorious Days growing up in Utah and all the good times we had. He wasn't into Rock hounding but we did find some arrowheads and Indian pottery one day. Thanks Dan for bringing us along and all of the awesome work you do with editing and filming. 👍🇨🇦 P.S. After watching the entire show, I just want to say thank you so much for being open to the possibility of allowing rockhounders to continue going there. I understand it's dangerous and they can make a mess. But the amount of material there and possibly generations of families that have been there in the past to be able to continue to go is priceless. You are a true gentleman Dan, thank you. 🤠🇺🇲

You've got a great family! I wish I could move to BC again to retire. My dad was an instructor at Simon Fraser U back in the 70's so I lived up there for more than a year during his sabbatical. I absolutely hated the school I went to in Port Moody, but fell in love with the region. The Fraser river was one of my favorite things to follow on our numerous trips. The geology up there is amazing! Love your vids and I'm now subscribed.... I should also add it's nice to see your better half supportive and engaged with the fun out in the field!

I learnt a long time ago to toss a small tube of Krazy Glue into my first aid kit, tackle box, etc. as it comes in very handy when you're hours way from help. As long as it's a fairly clean, not torn open too bad, it's very easy to glue yourself back together. There's not much difference between the stuff they use in the hospital and the stuff you guy. I've always been warned by my doctor about getting an infection but I've glued myself together probably 20-30 times and have never had an issue. With longer cuts you should do a little at a time and don't use too much glue as it will take a long time to dry. Every time I've managed to do a good enough job that I didn't bother getting it checked by a doctor.

A note on those overhangs. I think a lot of people will underestimate how hazardous overhangs can be, especially because you're outdoors and not underground. My brother works as an ame on helicopters in Papua new guinea. One of the areas they go into has rivers with rich placers and many people work the banks. Unfortunately, they undercut the banks and the resulting overhangs sometimes collapse injuring and killing many of those who're panning.

I remembering trekking up that way in the late 1950's. We encountered a family heading into William's Lake from a remote reserve. They were all piled into an old postwar Desoto. Grandfather was behind the wheel, two sons beside him. The backseat was full of the women, small kids on their laps. The trunk was open and full of kids. But the best part was the oldest grandson perched on the hood diving a team of horses that were hitched to the front of the car towing it! Once they got to the gas station in town, they filled the tank and the boys took the team to the stampede grounds and left them there for a few hours. The family would cruise around seeing the sights in the car and loaded it up for the trip home. They'd throw the double tree into the trunk and some of the older kids would ride the horses back to the reserve. The rest of the family drove home after the big day of fun in town. That suspension bridge over to Redstone was another great adventure. We spent a week up at the reserve there with friends, staying in an old walled tent, set up like a prospectors tent.

Another great video, sorry to see the injury happening so early, glad it was taken care of safely though. Certainly highlights the necessity of keeping a first aid kit on hand when adventuring. Something to maybe consider for future trips is a roll of "Engineer" tape (also known as textile tape). We used to tie them to the buckets so we could put the majority of the weight across our shoulders and back of the neck instead of just hanging down each arm. Anyway, thanks for the video, see you in the next one.
