I have hiked the skunk hollow trail and there is a lot of quartz. Satans Cesspool 4.5 miles into the trail had quartz deposits as well.

At 6:05 there seems to be bedrock that sniping would be a good idea or using a gold detector. Are there any restrictions for detectors or even using equipment?

Just FYI, Craig your right no need to hike further in. I went about an hour past where you stopped and found very little color. My best outings are right at the bridge. Just so everyone knows this area is known for small flakes no nuggets. I have found nice flakes and very small course gold here. You will dig all day and not even make gas money. If you are in it for money or to get rich it will never happen. YET if you are in it for the enjoyment of the outdoors and to find nice color then come out and have fun. I might add to all the newbies, that this is hard work, your back and shoulders will hurt and there is No coverage from the sun. Bring water and an umbrella. (and watch for rattle snakes). And please fill in your holes and take your trash back out with you. Hey Craig..... how many veins do you think are feeding this area?

+bill smith I'm not sure. There are probable a few veins in the area which leech flakes, but I'm honestly not certain. I think a lot comes vis Weber Creek.

Great gold panning videos! You always seem to get something. What's a nice town where you could walk/bike to panning area?
@jonathanryan42678 жыл бұрын
+Frugal Teq If you mean to stay in a town to walk/bike to a panning area, that limits you somewhat. Coloma/Lotus are very close to South Fork of the American River, and there are some accomadations. Foresthill is a short drive from some Middle Fork sites, as is Auburn, but you'd need to drive. Camping is allowed in several State Recreational Areas throughout this area.

+Craig Robertson sounds good, happy panning.

If you go to where the river first slows on the inside bend you might have better luck.
