If you just intend to blacklist/whitelist IPs, why not just use "Resource Policy" within the API Gateway? What would be the advantage of an additional involvement of WAF?

WAF works for ELB/ALB/NLB and has more advanced features such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks etc..

@@JavaHomeCloud yes but if we only want to whitelist/blacklist IPs, then Resource Policies serve the purpose, being more cost effective than WAF. Am I missing something here?

WAF service looks cool but the cost is not. Looks very expensive while you can run an app/web for almost no price.
