With regard to cells draining to 0, you can actually jump start them so they work again. I took apart a Milwaukee M18 battery which contains 10x 18650 cells, and one of the cells measured 0 volts. It's trash, right? Nope, connect it in parallel with 1 good cell. Once the "dead" cell was back above 3 volts or so, it charged just fine.

A lithium ion battery having been below minimum voltage, can develop dendrites, and hence become dangerous. - It can explode later under normal circumstances. - The hint you gave is only for exceptional cases where you are left with nothing else for survival. - Source: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2qycoqpedWUbrc

Does anyone know any devices that will use 21700 button top (usb-c port included) batteries? I cannot find any, so.... why make safe button top 21700 batteries, then they do not fit in anything as too long??? What would they work inside?

I bought solar light that the original battery died in (18650 2200mAh) and I bought a protected battery to replace it with. Is this recommended for solar lights in a Wisconsin climate (winter sometime -30°F summer sometimes 100°+F) i know thw protected might not fit but if it does am I wasting money or is it a good safety upgrade? The solar panel is some times indoors sometimes outdoors and sometimes strapped to my bike for light as it gets jostled around. Waste of money for protected for solar panel light? Thanks!

I have a liitokala 500s charger does the smart charger know when to stop charging unprotected cells? I've read when a battery reaches 4.2v it means full? But my charger keeps on charging at 4.2v. does the charger determine full capacity @ 4.2v or is the 4.2v on display just the charging volts?

Hello, i have a samsung battery that looks similar to the pink one in your video, it's blue though and reads "INR18650-32E Samsung SDI 2G41", i use it for my vaporizer and i believe i overcharged it and when i go to use the vape it says "Protected" on the small screen, does this mean i will have to get a new battery? or will it go away and return to normal? would love your advice and feedback! much appreciated.

Depends. If it says Samsung probably unprotected. If it has a brand name like keeppower or orbtronic they’ve probably added protection.

the little round protector thingy got messed up & the wrap kept peeling, so I just took everything off. haven't used it since, which sux cuz it's part of a pair. I don't know what the lil circles are called & I never wrapped a battery b4, so I dunno if it's worth it? also, is it dangerous when the wrap & the circle protector starts to peel or get messed up? (it wasn't a rewrap battery)

I have a few batteries that I’ve stripped from some old laptops, they are US18650GR, and LGDAS31865. Any opinion on these batteries, are they safe?
@rafsanchowdhury6942
@rafsanchowdhury6942 4 жыл бұрын
No coz after opening the battery you will see a circuit connected to 6 battery is there is protection in that circuit if you charge using that circuit all battery are protected but if you charge 1 battery then it's not safe you have to charge all batteries inside the laptop battery with the given circuit inside the laptop battery box if your that circuit is not working so you have to buy a battery 18650 battery charger or you can find a protection circuit in top of not working or working mobile battery if you open that or open the sticker you would find a protection board use that to charge

I apologize, I just want to be sure I understand you correctly... are you saying not to charge unprotected batteries in a flashlight capable of charging that size battery? Is that what you mean by on board charging?
@DanielGarcia-ir8oe
@DanielGarcia-ir8oe 3 жыл бұрын
@@vrab. correct, just because you can charge a battery within the flashlight means you should. If it’s a protected battery you are most likely fine charging within the flashlight. Unprotected batteries should be charged in a quality external charger. Don’t take just my word. Do a little research.....or a lot. Happy flashlighting!!

Are button-top batteries all protected, and flat tops all unprotected? Do vapes and flashlights use different kinds of 18650 batteries?
@Bushcraft412
@Bushcraft412 7 жыл бұрын
Px Kthirty you can get button top unprotected batteries. They are tough to find though. But I've never seen a flat top unprotected... Yet. The batteries are the same. But vape tend to like high drain batteries and flashlight people tend to prefer higher capacity. A flashlight draws 3amps constantly whereas vape needs like 20amps for seconds

i am unable to understand wjy the original battery brands like LG, Panasonic and Sony do not have any details on their website about the batteries they produce LG chem's website does not mention any of their 18650 battery models same is the case with Sony and Pasanasonic Perhaps this is the case which has led to various fake varaints arise

I'm not an expert on the subject, but I believe they do have specialized customer services lines. The same person who answers the phone if you have a question about your LG tv remote control, sure isn't the same if you have a multi-million account with them.

I have a Thrunite TN42 . I want the best out of it . So you recomend unprotected batteries for that...???
@schneir5
@schneir5 5 жыл бұрын
Don't most things specify if you should use protected or unprotected batteries? I'm only familiar with this from vaping, but what I do to choose batteries is consider the application, do I want longer battery life or higher amp rating? Would I use the battery with higher power so need a higher amperage or lower power and want longer battery life (mah). Also I consider if I will be using the batteries in a regulated device or mechanical (that's a vape thing). I don't know if you're still interested in this stuff since you made the comment 9 months ago, but here is the website that I use most for buying this kind of battery and chargers and battery wraps and cases and everything. It's reliable and has great prices. www.imrbatteries.com/ EDIT Holy shit I just looked up that flashlight. You paid 200$ for a flashlight??? I've paid about that in the past for Spyderco pocket knives, so I can't really talk. I had no idea that flashlights cost that much. And I saw that it uses FOUR 18650 batteries??? That's crazy! EDIT again I looked at the Thrunite website and they definitely use protected batteries. That doesn't mean you have to use only their batteries, though. I searched for "protected 18650" on imrbatteries.com and this is the results. I think any of those would work for you. www.imrbatteries.com/search.php?search_query=protected%2018650&section=product

If I left an unprotected battery in a torch and left it on would there be a chance of the battery exploding?
@Bushcraft412
@Bushcraft412 8 жыл бұрын
jonnywaselectric 99% of battery events are from cheap chargers that overcharge the battery, or having 2 mismatched batteries in serial in a flashlight. if you stick to single cell lights and a good brand name charger your eliminating 99% of the problems. now as soon as you drain a lithium battery the cathodes start to corrode, and this can create an internal short in the battery. which won't be a problem until you charge it, and then it could go poof. but don't fret, most reputable flashlight makers have built in low voltage protection in their. lights to prevent this. so you can very safely use an unprotected battery in a light with low voltage protection.

Liked your video found it interesting especially the info regarding the protected batteries and how they may drop off very quick possibly leaving you in the dark so to speak, say for instance a dark moonless night walking your dog in the woods-not a great situation to be in.

I take it that your flashlights do not use 2 batteries. I ask because 2 flat top would not connect together,.one need a button.
@schneir5
@schneir5 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's accurate. I know that some vape mods put the batteries in series connection, and the mechanical tube mods that do this just have the batteries stacked, and it definitely works. They are FOR SURE using unprotected "flat top" batteries for that, but they can make contact with the positive of one and the negative of the other. Here is an expensive vape mod that uses stacked 21700 "flat top" batteries. They still have a little positive thing that sticks up, so it doesn't short out. www.evcigarettes.com/back-to-basics-v4-stack-21700-20700-mech-mod-kit-by-purge-mods/ Just out of curiosity what experience do you have with this kind of battery? I only know about them because of vaping, so I'm familiar with the higher amp, lower mah unprotected batteries in 18650 and 21700. I know that these batteries are also used in flashlights, hoverboards, and Tesla cars.
