I love that Poland is putting a huge effort to ensure the survival of the capercaillie. What an amazing bird species!

An enigmatic bird, but maybe not one that attracts admiration, compared to so many other iconic species. That being so, it is really helpful that you highlighted its importance as an umbrella species and as an indicator of overall habitat quality. Your dedicated efforts to improve its habitat, survival success and public profile are exemplary. (I think the raptor whose head and shoulders you show in close-up is called in English a goshawk {accipiter gentilis}. It's a powerful predator for sure. However "pigeon hawk" seems to be another name used in the USA for the merlin {falco columbarius}, which is a small falcon. I'm happy to be corrected though!)

Thank you very much for another very positive comment. And yes, you are right, there is a mistake in the English name of the goshawk. Thank you for your attention and best wishes from Poland.

The female capercaillie and her chicks have good patterns for camouflage in the forest.
