How many grams of protein do you need per kilogram of body weight? Or is that something that we were taught that isn't necessary?

Luckily every single piece of fruit, vegetable, nut, seed, grains and greens ALL HAVE PROTEIN. So if you eat enough whole food calories, you're getting enough protein. Plus we all think we need WAY More protein than we actually need.
