"The fee hike will discourage non-serious students, who after a few months of stay in IITs leave the programme midway to take up employment or to prepare for competitive exams. This drop out in the middle of the programme leads to wastage of coveted seats and denies the opportunity to other serious and meritorious students," the HRD Ministry had said. The fee for the MTech programmes in IITs has not been revised for a long time whereas the cost per student has gone up substantially, it had maintained.

These stupid people won't concentrate on quality of faculty in IITs, 50% of IIT professors are performing below par. The crucial thing to understand in this debate is the fact that M.Tech fees have been raised to be ON PAR with B.Tech fees. So consider this hike as more of a market correction of the system. But, I agree with the point that most M.Tech programmes dont offer the same prestiege or perks as a B.tech program or an equivalent MBA program from an IIM. They really need to step up their own offerings in light of the hike is fees.

I am not engineering student I did M.Sc from IIT Guwahati, but I support this protest. Whatever government is saying that it is done to prevent unproductive students and to reduce government expenditure because many students leave in mid session after getting job or they prepares for competitive exam. It is justifiable because it is true n i have seen it in IIT. But let me ask from government why are you punishing genuine students for them. There is no placement in M.Tech. This much hike is unacceptable. Best thing government could have done is (1) hike fees by twice i-e from 30000 to 60000 without ending stipend. (2) In beging during admission make declaration by students that if they leave in between they have to pay entire 2 year fees.

The situation of engineering students and education as a whole is deplorable in India. Fee hike is only an alibi for institute directors to fill their own pockets, when it comes to providing research opportunities to students or stipend for research scholars be it M.tech or Phd, institutes don't care at all, but fee hike ke liye they all seem to come to a consensus immediately.. Students padhenge kab? Every other day institute administration kicks up a storm by hiking tuition fees, hostel fees for no damn reason and then students chale hain applications leke kabhi yahan kabhi wahan, request krne. It is just mental harassment for the students. How can administration expect us to perform in such mistrusting atmosphere? This is not just the situation in IITs but also in other smaller institutes of MHRD where every other Tom, Dick and Harry , with zilch research achievements of their own but with good connections in the government gets to be the Director and then start formulating these good for nothing policies as per their whim and fancy and eke out money from students. Placement ke liye kuchh ni krna chahte lekin research papers publish krne ke liye tudents ka khoon choos lete hain. This has to stop at some point, really there is need for an All India Engineering Students Council.

MHRD should think again from student prospective... Govt. Saath Ni degi toh Kon dega tbi desh ka ye haal h best of brains are going abroad forPhD and at last settle there. Jo India me reh jate unki value h Ni example Dr. Vashistha Narayan Singh he is great mathematician in India from Bihar but nobody knows and many more.
