As I'm listening to this the point of Apostolic succession was not to pass on secret knowledge, one of Irenaeus's constant combats against the Gnostics in "Against Heresies" he constantly emphasizes that point. Apostolic succession was a passing on of authority to those who were entrusted to defend the faith and stand firm in it's teachings, which were public not secret.

Another thing quoted in the New Testament is a hymn to Zeus, but it's not infalliable (it being the pagan hymn)
