As a Proto fan this set is so satisfying. I remember watching them play at SWT. Proto was playing that MU so wrong. He was trying to trade air moves with Kola. Doing that as Lucina vs Roy you will lose everytime. The key is to stay grounded as Lucina. Thats how she wins the MU. He showed some of this vs Goblin at summit 4. Obviously Goblin isn't the same level as Kola but to my knowledge Proto hasn't played any high or top level roys in japan (he's never played alice). So seeing him implement a more grounded playstyle was great.

I went into training room and Lucina does indeed kill Roy with fully charged forward smash at that % on that platform with no rage. He probably did the up smash to style but didn’t realize it wouldn’t kill

Man I don't like Proto's Min Min, but every time he pulls out the Lucina I can't help but root for him he just plays so clean! I love his play he makes the most vanilla smash character, a swordswoman with no gimmick, hype to watch

You are right. It is especially true for Lucina against Roy. She can counter his up B for free when he recovers. Using counter in neutral is a lot riskier though and should only be done on a read

@@georgesbouchet7430 i feel like some of the reads are obvious, i know they can't use it in neutral a lot because people will bait it, but a few times for mix up I never really see. For ex if roy is 100+ and lucinais landing vs him, every top player shields when its obvious she will either shieldbreaker if she knows its lower than full, hit to pressure shield or just go fopr cross up. Tomohack grabs are only rlly done to punish over shielding falling ariels like ppl used to do vs mkleo's ike. So many times both roy and lucina coulda countered the falling ariel instead of shielding. In my opinion that is

I remember the first set between those too... I cried salty tears in the comment section. I even almost lost faith in Lucina 🤣 ! Ah... I'm happy. Not only did ProtoBanham got his rematch against Kola, but he won with his solo (goated) Lucina against the best Roy in the world. I was getting a bit agitated at times when he didn't counter off stage whereas I knew he could have done so, but he did it a couple times, so I'm not complaining. He learned more about the matchup. Lucina vs Roy is almost like Lucina vs Fox. I think she slightly wins vs Fox, but Roy has a lot more kill power, so I'd say it's even or closer to be against him. Lucina loses to them if her player doesn't edge guard these characters enough. But if you get early edge guards like in game 2, fighting Fox or Roy as Lucina becomes a lot less scary. Roy is my favorite matchup as Lucina. I'm used to beat Roy players, but as long as they are challenging to battle, I always feel this kind of rush when I fight them. It's like fighting a " broken " version of my main. Hats off to both players, once again. Let's go Proto 😁
