Russ takes a look and listen to the new Waves Butch Vig vocals plug-in? Is it just another channel strip dressed up in a stream punk GUI or does it have something more to offer? See what Russ thinks.
Widely considered one of the most influential rock producers of recent decades, Butch Vig helped spawn an entirely new rock genre. From Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins to Foo Fighters, Green Day and his own band Garbage, Butch Vig has contributed his signature sound to some of the most legendary albums of the modern rock era.
One of the defining elements of the “Butch Vig Sound” is Vig’s unique vocal stamp. The celebrated producer ushered in the sound of distorted vocals in a beautifully musical way, and this feature is an integral part of the sound that the Butch Vig Vocals plugin faithfully recreates.
Designed for those looking for a creative approach to shaping vocals, Butch Vig Vocals features intuitive EQ controls, a compressor and a de-esser, and several tools for coloring your sound in numerous shades, including Tube and Solid State saturation, a unique Focus knob, and other inspiring features, all carefully crafted by Butch himself to help you realize your vocal vision.
With instantly hyped vocals that cut through the mix and a sound that is dripping with character, Butch Vig Vocals now gives everyone the opportunity to work with the sound of a true rock innovator.

Note to both of us: My brother (a fellow musician) mentioned that I should make my mouse bigger, or at least highlighted, for my tutorials. He said that especially on the phone it’s very difficult to follow somebody’s mouse. Great tutorial by the way, thank you.

"Let me be the one you back that ass up into..." These lyrics were never intended to be soloed. Just awful! But a great review besides the throw away lyrics.

Hello Russ, if you use the real Bypass button in Studio One (right next to the On/Off button that you used) you will not get nasty pops/clicks.

Do you still need a compressor on the chain or would this replace ?

I agree that this is a special plugin. I just turned on the first preset and immediately noticed an improvement. The verrrry big downside is the CPU hit. It slammed my computer along the lines of a large kernel Nebula preset. Had to immediately start rendering so that is the issue that has me wavering on a purchase, otherwise one of the very best Waves products. They're on a roll with DBX160 and HVerb. Thanks so much for the review.

That vocal is soooo CHEESY... it's far from being a good base for demonstrating the capabilities of the plugin.

It would have made sense to have supplied this with an alternative interface that doesn't look like the introduction of a computer game.

No way dude....it’s coooooool. And if you step back 10 feet it looks like a little robot guy, named Phillipe. He’ll dial in your vocal, finish layout homework for you... and then cook some awesome Russian biscuits.

I actually like the steampunk look. I wouldn’t want every plug-in to look that way but this is a nice change-up.

vocals sound scary as hell. these signature series plug in won't teach budding mixer to learn proper signal processing.

JT What is "proper" signal processing?
@3Raheem1Malik3
@3Raheem1Malik3 7 жыл бұрын
seriously....proper processing?! Its proper if it's easy on the ears and sounds great playing through whatever medium is being used. I rep Full Sail, but only because it gave me proper verbiage. Theory of proper processing doesn't exist. Yes THEORETICALLY one wouldn't slap a distortion plug right on the channel of a main vocal if they are looking for a clean sound, but doing that because you WANT to and like the sound is totally acceptable. There are caveats that have extreme importance when signal processing (signal flow) but generally the field is wide open. It's art. Anyone can process anyway they want.
