Yeah, I encountered some Blackwatch dudes who, upon being picked up, would say something like "Heller, stop! I'm on your side!" So, the option to gently set them down was appreciated. On the other hand, it's also nice to infect someone with a bio bomb, and just casually set them down gently, as their fate has already been sealed.

When you talked about how hard you land and bashing stuff aside, an idea for that mythical Prototype 3: So your health bar in the series is just like the sum of your biomass, how much meat you’ve got inside you, yea? You level up, your health bar gets bigger, ergo your can condense more biomass into the shape of your original body. But logically, that would make you heavier. A lot heavier. So, a threshold system, where the higher your HP value means the heavier you are, with each level up adding an extra threshold or two. The heavier you are, the louder the fall and the bigger the damage radius, scaling from how far you fell. When you get close to the true maximum, you can shove cars and the like aside when you run like you had P1’s armor on. Most importantly: your footsteps have to get louder and start to leave cracks in the concrete.

What I honestly missed most on Prototype 2 that's gone from one was the presentation effect you could do with Mercer. If you hold your selection button while picking a power Mercer would do a close up animation that would show him unleashing his ability (like when you first get a power). Not only that, but it was also programmed in a way that it would hurt/kill anything beside him as he flourished his weapon.

You know, you didn't much talk about Blackwatch, but I always assumed the soldiers taking on the new uniform was a kind of... foreshadowing that Mercer had sunken his teeth into Blackwatch itself. Just look at them! The hood, and the seemingly vestigial arm blade, plus the more color coordinated asthaetic - what with all the blue. It's just a thought, might be wrong, but either way they look badass as hell.

RyuKaguya I know, right?! I originally thought it was a rather strange get-up for them when Prototype 2 originally released, but it slipped my mind as I went on playing. In the actual lore, they never once mention their new design. The hood doesn't help much; at least no more than the simple gas mask they had in the first game. And their mandated arm blade especially seems... unnecessary. Yet, if you actually zoom in, the tip - presumably the sharpest point on the blade - has tons of scratches and scuffs, and the metallic sheen is worn down. I think it's more meant to be used against civvies, because even an average infected would't be killed easily in close combat... Then again, it could all be for intimidation, since Blackwatch has just been revealed to the world at large, where in prototype 1, their presence in New York was a secret to everyone outside of the city, and they were rarely seen by civvies. I'm probably thinking too deeply here, but it genuinely makes sense now that I'm actually analyzing them. Mercer seems like the person to egotistically force his enemies to emulate him.

I just started to play this game yesterday after finishing the first, and that was my exact thought, Mercer is a huge show off, he likes to stand out of the normal, that's why he makes all of those flips and turns. Heller, on the other hand, is a soldier, his movements, during combat or not, are as efficient as he can make, during combat you can see that he never stops sliding and bashing, while Mercer does a 3 or 4 hit combo and stops for a second or two, Heller doesn't do that, when he finishes his combo, he immediately starts another.
@danielm.595
@danielm.595 4 жыл бұрын
And there's more, to everyone saying that Heller doesn't do parkour I suggest that you see an ophthalmologist, Heller has parkour animations, however he doesn't do them in the same rate as Mercer, the biggest chance that he makes a parkour is when he is climbing a building.
@mosesking2923

The difference between Mercer and Heller is kinda like the difference between Spider-Man and Venom. I wouldn’t expect Venom to do air tricks and parkour in the same way that Spider-Man does. It all goes back to the characters.
@obkworld1

I like to think that they took out the parkour in Prototype 2 because it didn't fit James Heller. He was military and was far more strict and orderly in his movements than Mercer because of it.
@TychoHoward
@TychoHoward 5 жыл бұрын
This. I feel the lack of Parkour was to further contrast Mercer from Heller. Mercer was (supposed) to come off as this overwhelming intelligent presence with even more brawn than brains backing it up, and Heller was just a human working off of MAD itself powering him through everything like fuel for a locomotive. His lack of parkour speaks to his singleminded obsession. As you mentioned with Resurrection and the intro cutscenes, at that point James had pretty much lost everything worth living for with the exception of wanting to kill Mercer...or die trying. The scene after the intro even establishes that if things in New York weren't so bad with the resurgent and even deadlier infection, Heller wouldn't have even been allowed near New York after how he broke down.

The biggest failing of prototype 2 was how it dropped the big twist of the first game where it was revealed the first Alex the human died and was replaced by the virus strain which subsumed his consciousness. The effect such a revelation could have had on James could of made for a far more interesting plot. He'd could have gone from someone out to kill his enemy to someone unsure of his own identity someone questioning if he and his enemy were the same organism.
@kenanwallace2124
@kenanwallace2124 5 жыл бұрын
The interesting thing about that is it was neither confirmed nor deconfirmed if the virus took over Heller's body in that regard. The key to Mercer's identity is that he was actually shot and killed upon releasing the virus so while it is Alex in appearance, Alex is most definitely dead, his corpse is just being puppeteered. With Heller now, we see after he beats the brawler in the intro that he attacks Mercer for a third time only to be thrown into a wall and have Mercer stab him in his torso, utilising a variant of the claw. We see the tendril like nature of Alex's biomass wrap around Heller briefly before he falls to the ground and appears to be slowly dying due to the wound he was given. Through Heller's eyes, we then see blackwatch/gentek troops arrive in a helicopter to retrieve him before he blacks out, leaving us unsure whether he died or not. Compared to in the first game where Alex being revived is seen from an outside perspective where he is most certainly dead, Heller simply appears to wake up in the midst of being operated on. Now at the end of the game we defeat Mercer and Heller consumes him to gain the necessary biomass to destroy the spread of the virus. Before that however, we see the last poignant memory of Alex where he locks up Dana. His response to Dana; after recounting her memories with her brother, criticises Alex's actions, mortality and effectively morality by claiming "That Alex... is dead now". Alex responds saying, "I've moved beyond life and death Dana... Heller has too, he just doesn't realize it yet". The games ending might be a little late for any major character development on Heller's part but this does pose a question, what was Heller's mortality when he got the Virus. We don't know how Alex created the rest of the Evolved and they all appear to be living beings too. There's the matter of Heller being more like Alex than the rest of them possibly due to his more 'resilient DNA' and unlike Alex in the first game, Heller has no questions about himself or missing memories. As far as we're aware, he's perfectly intact and knows exactly what his goals are both before and after getting the virus. I personally go with the idea that Heller resting his 'humanity' somewhat more than Alex on account of who he was and the fact that he's still alive but can utilise the virus for his own means. That said it's all speculation, only word of god can detail what was actually the case.

I think a lot of people would disagree that that was the biggest "failing of prototype 2". The game could have the best story ever, but it'd still rate low if it had worse gameplay. Gameplay is everything in these kind of games, + the whole "twist" wasn't exactly mind blowing, it was just good plot, and if Prototype was rated a 9, 8 of that point would be due to the gameplay, and 1 would be story.
@DS_Sword
@DS_Sword 5 жыл бұрын
@@estoylaroca You're right I was a bit hyperbolic there, I guess its just the twist was part of what made up for the monotony within the first games story and helped the game leave a good impression on me overall so I'm rather attached to it. I'd argue though that if the second games story was more memorable regardless of if that twist was preserved the group arguing for more might be larger.

My biggest failing was honestly Heller. Hes just honestly an asshole and its just angry ALL THE TIME!! Its fine to have a mad character but it just seemed like he bitched about literally everything he came across of everyone he met. Its like he was trying to outmad Kratos. Other than that the fact that Alex Mercer realises that Heller is a huge risk to his plan and instead of killing him then when he gets overpowered slightly he... Runs away.... Giving Heller time to grow stronger.... I hate this story so hard.
@Himax9
@Himax9 4 жыл бұрын
My personal theory: Mercer is still alive. He is "hiding" in Heller. His entire villain spiel, even destroying New York, was just an act. He was fully aware how idiotic he sounded, but it was necessary to trick everyone. His real reasoning for creating the Evolved was to let them fight each other in order to find the best possible genetic adaptations. So he could eat them. Mercer's real plan, his real enemy, is Pariah. Pariah is out there, somewhere. And Pariah has all of his abilities and maybe much more. Maybe Mercer is trying to save the world from Pariah, maybe he wants to kill Pariah to keep himself safe, maybe he just doesn't want to share the buffet with him. His motives should stay obscure. So Mercer found a way to keep himself together if he himself was consumed, so he could study DNA from inside someone who could kill him. This would give him an edge in fighting Pariah. Heller was just a fool chosen at random-- Mercer was impressed with his suicidal bravery. Heller just happened to have the exact kind of genetic adaptation that Mercer needed, and the drive to gather a great deal of tasty abilities. He only took Heller's daughter to provoke a confrontation with him. I always figured a sequel would start with Mercer popping out of Heller, mocking him, and leaving him in a gutter while he went off to hunt Pariah. There would be a lot of possibilities in such a plot. I love your analysis of these games! You are able to look at so many different facets of gameplay and design. And best of all, you clearly PLAYED these games with discipline and skill. I am very impressed with your work, keep it up!

To speak to your points about the map design/movement feeling less impressive, it actually worked for me due to the progression. You start the game in the Yellow Zone, and you've just come into your powers. You can't jump as high, run as fast, or kill as efficiently yet, and I think the sandbox you're given there represents that. The Green Zone is where things start to ramp up, Heller becomes faster, stronger, more capable, and this is also where you start to run into more Evolved as well. And then finally the Red Zone, where you're at the apex of your powers. I say this because I noticed exactly what you did on NG+ runs of the game, that the Yellow and Green Zones feel too small and restrictive when I have all my abilities unlocked compared to the Red, but that's because it felt like each zone was tailored more to where James was in terms of his powers at each point in the story. Just my take.

Prototype 2 is my favorite specifically for what you mentionned : the dialogue and the atmosphere. The gameplay being streamlined wasn't too much of a loss for me as most of the moves that were in the first game that didn't make it in the sequel, I varely rarely used them even if they were fun, some were downright pointless to use. Prototype 2 still managed to engage me enough in its world and content to drive me to 100% it and unlock every single achievement, it's the very first video game ever where I found that doing achievement hunting was FUN. That's what I wanted form the game, fun, and it gave me plenty.

The only thing I thought about the movement was that Heller was more function over form as a soldier unlike Mercer who became to revel in his power. Why wouldn't you do flips when you discover that you can flip over cars, vans, trucks and tanks. Heller didn't need to do flips, it was simply from point A to point B.

Wish we could've seen more of a juxtaposition between Heller and Mercer that showed their differences and similarities better. An example as shown here would be how they use their abilities, with Heller really just focusing on getting stuff done and Mercer instead showing off like he kind of did in the prologue of 2. Have that graduate to ideological disputes - the entire arguement of transhumanism in itself as well as the differences between its options. In the hypothetical Prototype 3, we could have seen Heller slowly going insane from arguing with Mercer post-consumption, with Heller trying to retain a shred of humanity and Mercer dragging him away. Mercer would also attempt a more detached view of civilians, while Heller tried to not turn them into red paste on the floor. Meanwhile Blackwatch evolved their methods to create cybernetic enhancements - think cyborg variations of the Orion subjects (slap on some body modifications, some fighting style changes, easy). The soldier designs in 2 look more cybernetic than they did in 1 anyway, so it's not a serious step.

I'm glad to see someone making about this series. I'd like to politely disagree with some of what you said, though. I have played both games, and while prototype 2 is my personal second favorite game, I hated the first one. I did play it to completion, though, so I got to see all the nice scenes showcasing how versatile the virus can be. But there was something about it that made the experience wholely unenjoyable to me. I've never really thought about it until this video, but some of the things that you point out as positives are negatives to my personal experience. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the constant flair when moving in 1. It doesn't always have to be flashy, and I prefer it when Heller just jumps over the obstacles. I haven't played 'vanilla' 2 for a while, but if I remember correctly you don't get vehicle finishers or takeover for a decent amount of the game. I'm not a 100% on that, so I won't hold it against you. However, I think it's incorrect to say that you'll always spam finisher. I don't play 2 to win, I play it to have fun. Sometimes I want a flashy death of a tank, sometimes I just want to punch it. The game doesn't force you to use finishers, so if you're always doing it, that's your own perogative. Something that you bring up quite a bit over the video is button input, saying that some actions in 1 requiring more button input is a positive whereas 2 requiring less is bad. I disagree with this, I don't want to have to watch the character jump from the back of the heli, to the wing, to the cockpit to get in. I want to see him grab the heli and stare at the pilots while they freak out, waiting for you to do something. I like the simplicity of the front of the helicopter being a hub for the choices you can make while grabbing the heli. I agree wholeheartedly that combat isn't difficult, but I don't play 2 because I want a challenge all the time. That doesn't mean I don't want to be challenged ever, but I think freeroaming shouldn't be a big challenge to dominate. The replayable missions are enough, in my opinion, are enough of a challenge to satisfy me if I ever want one, but again, that's not really why I play the game. I like being the untouchable, unstoppable, bulletproof madman, and I enjoy how simple the control scheme is to get you there. You make this point in the video sound like it's extremely bad, but it's my personal favorite part of the game. And while, yes, if every game was like this, they wouldn't be very interesting, Prototype 2 isn't every game. It serves this purpose, in my opinion, extremely well. I fully agree that the story could have been done better, and the way you brought up sounds like it could have been amazing. My best guess as to why Alex infected Heller in the first place is because he saw potential. He's certainly not against having regular grunts as his evolved underlings, as much as it helps him to have soldiers with higher authority. As well as the fact that he saw heller take down a brawler single-handedly with a knife and escape from a goliath. He maybe left Heller alone because he was supposed to just turn because of being infected but his annoyingly resilient dna stopped him from becoming a puppet? It''s entirely speculation, of course, but to me it does work as an explanation, however unfortunately weak. In conclusion, I'd like to thank you for making this video. It was well put together, well worded, and well made. While some of your arguments were based more on opinion than fact, you made a good argument overall and I commend you for that. I enjoyed it greatly and felt compelled to respond. I haven't done this just to oppose you, I just tried my best to point out some of the arguments you made that were more based on opinion and I wanted to show an alternative to that opinion. I don't mean to try and change your mind, you can dislike how easy combat is or what have you all you want. I'm just personally biased myself and wanted to try and voice a different perspective. If you made it this far, I wish you a good day. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

My only issue is that good game design imo SHOULD strive to make the most fun way to play also the most optimal. Many gamers will easily optimize all the fun out of a game, and so making optimal play also the most rewarding and fun instead of mind-numbingly pressing 3 buttons for vehicle finishers would've been better game design. There are plenty of games that can strike a good balance, P2 just isn't one of them. P1 has some combat issues, sure, but the fun way to play was still the most optimal in many cases.

There are ways that Mercer's motivations could have been changed to make him more deep than just a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain. Would have made his use of Whitelight more understandable, too. Mercer: "Of course I didn't _need_ Whitelight to absorb the human race. If it were just a matter of gobbling up all the biomass, I could do that just by traveling from country to country, infecting people in high traffic, low containment areas. Airports, hotels, convention centers, schools...I needed Whitelight because I didn't want to gain ground at random, nor put the entire world under quarantine. With Whitelight, the powers that be - governments, corporations, Blacklight - would have infected themselves, starting with all their precious VIPs. The CEOs, the politicians, the celebrities, and the scientists. All the ones they care so much about, converted to my command in short order. By the time I took control, they'd all be mine; the human race, conquered from the top down. Not only allowing me to use the apparatus of government and business to force everyone else to take Whitelight, but to be in a position to take control with those systems intact. "With all of humanity's scientists and industrialists under my thumb - with them all being _extensions of myself_ - I could cut through the crap holding this species back. Heller, aren't you tired? Tired of seeing the human race squander its potential on meaningless distractions? War, commerce, abuse, politics, religion, indulgence, and all the other ways that humans fritter away their time, brain power, and meat. If I had it all - all the biomass, and all the brain power - I could do so much. Crack fusion power. Plant orbital rings around the planet, to defeat Earth's hateful gravity well. Strip the solar system bare of extraneous bodies, and convert the raw materials into space habitats, for storing biomass. Mercury alone has enough material to put a Dyson Swarm around the sun, allowing us to tap its full energy output. We could starlift the heavier materials from the sun - the ones that will slowly kill it in a few billion years - extending old Sol's life by orders of magnitude. "And when we have totally dominated our system - when we've made artificially enough living space to support quadrillions of people's worth of biomass - we'll ride the redirected light of the sun on solar sails outward. Out, to distant stars. Out, to take over millions of worlds, and to build _billions_ worth of habitats around countless stars. The galaxy grown dark, because our Dyson Swarms will collect all of the light, everywhere. There will be so much life, Heller. So much biomass. And that's just with the technology we have now, or can have in short order. With so much brain power, what sorts of physical laws could we bend to our will? Even the meat-brains won't need suffice. I myself plan to link myself with a moon's worth of computer processing power, buried in the cold interior of Europa, where the ice will keep the machines cool and efficient. Processing power enough to solve all the mysteries of the cosmos! Doesn't that sound beautiful, Heller?"

The thing is, I hated Prototype 2 because you are the typical good guy fighting against a far more fleshed out and interesting character. I understood Mercers motivation, and rooted for him in the game. The protagonist of P2 is just so bland and I hated the fact that I tried to stop Mercer. Took the fun out of the game. The first was so interesting because you could totally anihilate everything and it fit with the theme. In P2 we are a "hero" who tries to save the world. I know, I know, his daughter was a motivation, but he still is nowhere as interesting as Mercer

@@bigbaddymike3101 yep, the second part also troubles me. Prototype 2 was a step up in many ways to make mechanics smoother, but it completly removed any difficulty. First game was too easy, but second one... huh. Meanwhile the best examples in hack&slash genre are remembered for 1)challenging boss battles with unique bosses and mechanics; 2)enemy variety and variable difficulty; 3)variable gameplay options. I'm taking broad definition here, so not only DMC/GoW and so on, but sandbox like Prototype and RPGs like DSouls series... or Severance if anybody remembers it:D Prototype lacked the second already, but at least tried in terms of bosses and variety. Tried with rather good results. Not very memorable, but at least worthwhile. Prototype 2 failed in all three. Its story made no sense in context of first game and its gameplay wasn't helping to carry the load either. When Prototype 2 dropped, I was crazy excited and burned through it as quickly as possibly. It was fun, sure, but I didn't have that desire to master it. 23:36 - 24:40 Yes. You are definitively here for this! Man the comedy in this game can get many a chuckles outta you. I always had a hate-love relationship with Prototype 2. But i can give this advice. Trying to get somebody into the series? make them play the 1st! Tease about the 2nd. P2 Evolves, literally, on so many ends over it's predecessors, but a lot of it can just go to boredom corner once you 100% the game. It's not "FUN" anymore once you 100% on Maniac+. But in P1? heh, no! As for Weapon Combos that can actually trigger unique animations and have combat strats, i (don't remember all, it's been too long since i played it, but) there was more to than just Two. How this goes is basically you attack the enemy with the first attack, and once the attack effect sets in, like stun/stagger (whip) or strung up (tendril), the alt attack does technical damage. || Whipfist + Tendril (Range Kill) || Whipfist + Blade || || Tendril + Blade (Heavy Kill) || Tendril + Whipfist || (might be wrong about the combinations, but i definitely remember there being more than just those two)

This video was amazing to watch. There are parts that I disagree regarding feeling too strong is a bad thing. I've actually enjoyed being a bad ass while NPC couldn't hurt me with mere bullets. It's refreshing to see a game that doesn't cower from making you absolute godly in the game without me having to use some form of a cheat.

Sometimes I switch between games as prototype 2 had better more fun enemies that u can kill in different ways and make u feel like those superhero’s in movies my favourite encounter of the evolve was that one mission where u fight 3 evolved at once. Prototype on the other hand had that challenge that felt so satisfying when u overcome also with the variety of weapons, combos and ways to take down an enemy made the game all more fun since it took strategy. I’d say I like both games equal but would love if prototype had a remaster as the world sometimes feels dead while prototype 2 really makes the world more alive and gives a real feel for the npc’s

Geez ! Your intro is amazing. It's absolutley stunning how you make those videos so interesting. I dont even mind those 43:17 mins.Your work and word are amazing and well choosen.It's not simple talking. It's comparing and showing pro and cons.I absolutely enjoyed it. I personally have both games and i'm happy to have both.They are games to be remembered , especially of those feelings you get there. "You are a god." I simply love it.Prototype 1 gave you a shit ton of variation how you want to engage them and had a lot of details.Also it was interesting to watch how the area slowly start to change from a normal manhattan to a warzone more and more.Also those tiny animation you got from transformations each time felt super satisfaying. In prototype 2 ,however we face a problem we kinda face in most games too.Sick graphic , but kinda dull gameplay style.Atleast thats how i feel.I miss a game like prototype 1 or 2 for real.It was a unique genre and an amazing idea.Especially the story setup from prototype 1 offers a lot of potential for several sequels.Too bad it all ended. Still i must say prototype 2 focused heavily for atmosphere feeling and damn did it nailed it properly with the music and the trailer and that amazing intro.You felt with heller.You acted in "anger" and good the enviroments looking sooo good and interesting.I really love each zone, but it still feels badass to be in the red zone and watch blackwatch fighting and then slowly drop down the fight as a badass and mess with them.The red zone felt so good.Still there are certain downgrades like attacks or some "unproper" impact feelings.You drop from the sky like a "fridge",while in prototype 1 you kinda wanted to be high as possible and drop down from the sky and destroy everything around you and you enjoy the Shockwave blowing everything away from you.Just for the feels. Tbh prototype 1 and prototype 2 got both their pro and cons and i sometimes think, if they would take from prototype 1 and 2 only the pro stuff . It would be an insane game.Shockwaves during jumping.endless airtime.New weapons like the infected launcher.combat , parkour variety from prototype 1 and certain details from each game and BAAM top game. well ... it will still remain a dream sadly. also i'm kinda surprised that you didnt mentioned anything about creating your own little infested area in each zone due whitelight barrels in prototype 2.For me it was a neat little extra.

I think narrative wise, prototype 2 came out on top. It's like you said, from the environment, to the main character, to the NPC's and music, it bested the first one. I also liked the stream lined combat. I felt like an absolute monster dropping in hot into the middle of a blackwatch base as I then proceeded to destroy everything in sight. Hell, even after I got all of the achievements I still liked watching my brothers play the game and DESTROY everything in sight. Overall, it was a more cinematic experience. Wished they made a 3rd one.

I would say that the combat in the first is better in terms of variety and some of the spectacle is superior as well but 2 has a much better shield and dodge mechanics in addition to the radically improved enemy variety. The evolved and brawlers were much more fun to fight than anything offered in Prototype 1. As much as I love the first game's combat, the helicopters, tanks hunters got boring rather quickly, cutting through vehicles always feels less satisfying than cutting through the flesh and bone of brawlers and other superhumans. Both great games though.

This tapped into a locked memory or something, I haven't thought about Prototype in years and seeing this vid has left me with an absolute smile thinking about the great times I had playing this as a kid. (yes i was way too young to play this but i'm grateful I got to enjoy it at some point rather than it be a game long forgotten before I ever got the chance to learn about it) I never noticed the flaw in story or the easy difficulty of this game as I was barely sentient when i played it making it truly a masterpiece in my eyes and will only serve as wonderful example of a game that balanced action, gore, and comedy.

About the lack of parkour animations, you could see it as heller being too serious and angry to give a shit about having fun with cool flips and all that. Doubt the devs had that in mind though, but thats how i cope anyway.

Alex Mercer's story had interesting implications in Prototype 2, and in the comics too. It's like... he's struggling to find a purpose in his life, whether to fulfill his original goal as a virus, or to simply forget it all and live normally as a human. In his confusion, and how he begins to revert back to the *original* Mercer, he meets it all halfway. Find a good enough reason to justify the use of the virus, and then when he goes through with it simply say it was because he wanted a "New World". Because the original Mercer was a visionary, and would never willingly say he made stupid decisions, or started to step in his own way. Maybe that's why he even infected New York *specifically.* It was an echo of what the original Mercer accomplished, so of course he wanted to emulate it. More than that, it was like... a testing ground, I think. To see if humanity, and Blackwatch could even ante up to the challenge. Maybe that's why he infected Heller too, besides finding a second in command for his Infected army, he realized that Heller was the perfect stepping stone. The xenith of his journey; kill him and then that's it. No turning back, go full steam ahead with no regrets; make the world his forever more. The fact that Heller managed to win is another matter entirely. But when Mercer was finally beaten, he accepted it, and simply told Heller that Mercer's burden was now his. *He* had to find a reason for it all now. A purpose... Or maybe the writers just wanted a simple story. Either way, I fucking love this franchise!

I LOVE how O.P Heller is Thats what makes it fun...the fact that ur damn near untouchable and the only possible challenge you could have is from that one other character whos untouchable...who in this case was alex mercer...it made the actual fight a huge deal and a spectacle. This game builds suspense for the end fight like no other

The writing for the characters was honestly superior in the first game imo. Alex's transition to the big bad guy honestly comes out of nowhere and even after you kill him and gain his memories nothing is really explained, his new mindset remains unjustified, his new ideals are less because of an reasoning other than "Fuck you I'm Alex Mercer". In the first game Alex died and while the being left in the remains wasn't entirely Alex but the virus copying what was left it still had his personality and shards of memories. Even absorbing other people and their memories didn't change him and if something was going to change him it should have been his consumption of Elizabeth Green AKA Patient Zero who became the center of the hivemind virus but it didn't. There was no build up or reasoning given for Alex's sudden change in mindset. It's a complete 180 from his original intentions of exposing Blackwatch and Gentech his former employers.

Watching the first video, I was kinda worried because at no point you even mentionned the twist that Alex is a virus, so seeing it casually mentionned when talking about Mercer's potential for sequel relieved me A LOT. Ironically, in a review of a game that seems to have forgotten he isn't human and treat him as any evolved (the comic havs Mercer explicitedly refer to himself as an human enhanced by a virus, so clearly, some lack of communication occured. D=) Excellent video.

I think the toned down moveset is not bad thing. For example, the Hammerfist in Prototype 1 SUCKED with exception to the HammerToss move, so it made me wonder at the time why the unarmed fist slam and ground pound were much more effective at being AOA attacks than the actual power that was designed for that, like you would get no more than 4-feet of area damage with Hammerfist's basic attacks in Prototype 1 (Fully charged too), so it made the HammerFist really pointless, whereas in Prototype 2 the HammerFist has about 10 feet of area damage, so why would the fist slam and ground pound need to make a return when you have a weapon that can do both, much more effectively and efficiently? As for the Armor and the Shield, I would've agreed with you on that part if the shield in Prototype 1 wasn't made out of cardboard. Practically any attack that isn't from soldiers shooting regular bullets at you breaks your shield instantly in Prototype 1; Claw swap from hunter? Gone in one shot. Missile? Gone in one shot. Hit from Super Soldier? Gone in one shot. The shield in Prototype 1 was garbage, even more so since not only did it break so easily, but took longer to fully regenerate. The shield in Prototype 2 is a step up, yes it's indestructible, but keep in mind you that unless you are in the air, you are immobile with the shield out, so you are STILL sacrificing mobility for defense (In this case, 100% mobility gone in return for 100% defense), and it's a good counter weapon too. You can also bring it out manually whereas in Prototype 1 it would only come out if you are sprinting or being attacked, meaning that you could not choose which attacks you wanted it to defend against. As for the finishers, I think they should've done to where they were only accessible if the vehicle in question had low health. Another point about the strike team you failed to mention was that in Prototype 1, the Strike Team would only show if an enemy soldier, tank, helicopter, UAV, or Biomass Detector called them in, so you had to choose between ignoring them and let the strike team come or taking them out to prevent the team from coming in. That strategy and decision making is gone in Prototype 2 when the Strike Team will always show up after a certain of time after you engage with the military. There was also the fact that you were rewarded high amounts of EP (2500-35000) for destroying them in Prototype 1 whereas in Prototype 2, you are rewarded with very little EP (10-20) for destroying them.

Positive side to finishers is they are 12 finishers 6 for tank 6 for helicopter , 5 vary from active power and 6th is from using heller or flesh disguise mode basically kills tank and helicopter same as hammerfist with less fx . I was expecting there to be continues play after completion but no option to be able to destroy buildings orto have atleast hives respawn , all you can do is sneak ,summon pack or just stride into base like venom to release infected from cages to consume it for 45 ep , Then wipe out base guards for 1 - 6 xp and 12 xp from vehicles then run to next base and repeat .

I enjoy how high quality it is, and real thought & great effort is shown on your part in the video itself.
