Because they slimed it down, into the mark 5 suits you see Chief wear. So you do see another version of this suit from the jump. It was the prototype for the rest of the molnir.

The Yggdrasil is essentialy a homage to the power armour that Heinlein's Starship Troopers are supposed to wear and in sci-fi it is the closest one to it.

The suit designer Shinji Aramaki in an earlier anime "MADOX" designed the suit there that looks like a Prototype of the Prototype.

Actually it's not. Yggdrasil comes from Norse Mythology. Yggdrasil is an immense mythical tree that plays a central role in Norse cosmology, where it connects the Nine Worlds. Yggdrasil is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. And Hrunting was a sword given to Beowulf by Unferth in the ancient Old English epic poem Beowulf. Beowulf used it in battle against Grendel's Mother. Beowulf is described receiving the sword in lines 1455-1458. So yeah Yggdrasil is a massive tree in Norse mythology. And Hrunting is a sword in the epic of Beowulf.

Fun fact did you know in this episode of Halo Legends Ghost was declared as MIA for his actions. This dude putting everything on the line so others may live managed to achieve the honor that all spartans are given in death. Ultimately this is an amazing detail to the story.

Fun Fact: There were only 2 of this specific exo-suit class in Halo. The books even mention "the prototype" with Halsey. The first was located at UNSC Weapons Research Facility T12A. On Planet Angolis. The second unit was in Halo Wars 2 it is the same armor and systems but heavily customized by Sergeant Avery Johnson. Respectfully Called the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I [J] Armor Defense System Only difference in the name being J for Johnson. As far as Im aware "Green Machine" as Johnson called it is still around on the Spirit of Fire. Even if they lost it the Spirit can just make another one. Mainly because of salvaged Data from the Invasion of Angolis. GHOSTS LEGACY LIVES ON.

With what ghost was able to do by himself in that suit I think we now know why Chief keeps taking on entire armies by himself most of the time. Also could the armor system with more r&d had been simplified for mass deployment or as heavy assault add on for MJOLNIR armor systems?

Possibly but considering their was only one prototype and the fact mjolnir cost as much as a unsc Destroyer I could only imagine how expensive this suit was; and as such too expensive to even equip parts to Spartans.

Yeah usually after RnD most military assets only decrease in productions costs by 10 to 20% once the manufacturing development has been streamlined. So this suit still would have been astronomical and just not viable as a mass production military weapon.

You guys need to remember this was made in the really days of the Human Covenant War. Humans have been making plenty of equally or more powerful things since the war ended. I believe Gen 2 MJOLNIR is a lot cheaper to make than the Gen 1s, not because they are less powerful mind you. If something like this was being made around the 2557 it would likely not cost much more than MJOLNIR perhaps even less.

Honestly one of if not my favourite piece of mech content. The fluidity of the mech yet the weight and power justs feels so right. It's like the Prawn Mech from District 9. I will rewatch Halo Legends over and over just for this one short. Damn the mech/mecha genre was lit during the 2000s. Lil ol me mind was basically blown finding out Halo had a mini collection known as Halo Legends. Especially when some shorts were made from my most favorite studios. Loved how The Mona Lisa and Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian were also tied in with Prototype in some ways.

The HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mk.1 does have a version, labeled [J], that is confirmed to be in use. While it was showcased in the Johnson DLC for Halo Wars 2, which is non-canon, the exoskeleton system itself is canon

It may have costed more than Mojlnir, but unlike the Mojlnir armour the prototype suit can be worn by anyone without augmentation.

I love this suit so much, I really hope if you ever play as a marine in the later halo games. That you can pilot something VERY similar to this Mark-1 prototype. I would even argue that the Mark-1 prototype is even better than the Spartan Mjolnir armor.

Halo Legends may be the single most underrated piece of Halo media, even more than Halo Wars, the books and Halo 4. It may have it’s flaws (Spartan 1337, The Package lore problems) but some of it is so incredible. The two part episode on the history of the Forerunners and Halo, Prototype, Babysitter and the episode with Arbiter Fal Chavam’ee were damn near perfect.

Funny story about the Prototype: I was part of a Gundam RPG a couple years back. The person running it was a massive mecha fan, and offered us extra starting XP and cool backstory if we were to make up our own mobile suit. Most of the rest of the group squabbled over not wanting to do it or basically just copying the first Gundam they found online (because this is what happens when non-anime nerds join an anime-themed RPG). I was having a bit of trouble msyelf...and then I remember THIS THING. So I just took a few screenshots from Prototype, specifically anything without Covenant or of the suit firing its weapons, said it was 21 meters tall annnddddd...that was it. Game didnt finish, but before it died, my glorious not-Prototype suit slaughtered six Zakus and took out a Musai battleship. I miss it dearly.

Crazy that one marine did all of that inside of 10 minutes, on top of simply holding the covenant off like he did. 300 megatons dwarfs even Tsar Bomba, and would have annihilated anything for many miles around. Depending on the size and concentration of the invading force, it's possible the dude wiped out a division or more of covenant in minutes. Counting the nuke of course.

Mooney3MM he was a Spartan 1, so he might’ve been a test pilot for it. Also, the suit seen in Halo Wars 2 is likely the MkIII suit, which still had an external power source, but used a wireless connection.

Its the MK I(J) variation. Never actually built as far as we can tell, but something developed by the Algolis team alongside the mainline suit. If I had to guess the J variation was intended more for infantry support, while the mainline suit was focused on exceissive firepower and line breaking or heavy defensive operations as we see it used in the short.

Killer Orca I still think it’s the MkIII suit. Roanoke Gaming has a video on MkI-VII, the MkI and II suits have a cable connecting it to a generator, where as the MkIII suit have a wireless connection, but was still limited by range. The Halo Wars 2 maps might all be small enough to where the range isn’t an issue.

I was actually looking into all the UNSC mech-variants throughout the games earlier today lmao, mainly from Legends and Halo Wars 2. I never knew that in HW2 Sgt. Johnson actually used a variant of this suit called the “Green Machine” as DLC, obviously not cannon but a nice double reference. I’m so glad to see this video right afterwards (and a side note your vid on the Ultimate Mjolnir guide was also fantastic 👌)

Given the obvious capability of the standard power armor, and the wildly unlikely expense given for them, it's really hard to beleave they wouldn't become a standard mass produced product. But this!!! One guy held back a Covenant army?!! No way could I see these as not cost effective, even if they cost as much as a Cruser. As a quick strike force that does need a huge landing craft... That can make up for limited trained forces. Hell sacrifice colonies to pay for ultra forces built of these.

I have a Star Wars halo crossover version of this suit, it combines The Original prototype DATA with low cost droid manufacturing methods of the SW universe and data dug up on the Imperial Darktrooper program to enable a limited amount of mass production. Still very much an elite unit but no longer prohibitively expensive. More like Starship Troopers (novel). Tomino's original concept was a powered armor like in the video hence the term mobile suit is probably inspired by Mobile Infantry and the power suit. But executive meddling gave us the huge mecha that we all know and love.
