This video is one of the outputs of a Christian Aid research project, ‘On the Brink: Climate Migrations in Colombia and Honduras’ that sought to understand communities’ perspectives of climate-induced migration in the two countries.
We worked collaboratively with our Colombian partner organisation, ClimaLab, and the production company Manodeobra Creative Studios for the project in both countries. Christian Aid in LAC jointly created the initial project design, methodology, and subsequent research questions with ClimaLab in Colombia, and with Centro de Desarrollo Humano (CDH) in Honduras.
The communities were identified through different networks of environmental and rural organisations, using a snowball sampling method. Therefore, the project does not claim to be representative of the views of a wider community, however, it does show the impacts of ‘natural’ disasters on certain individuals.
As well as the importance of consent, we also sought to promote participant ownership and avoid ‘extractivist’, ‘oppressive’ or ‘exploitative’ methods (given that these are the paradigms that we wish to erode).
This video shows how the impacts of climate change is forcing migration in Providencia Island, Colombia. You can find the full report on Christian Aid’s website.
