We vacuum pack and freeze for the Bahamas we can pack three months of meat for a family of six in our two freezers. One is a portable, but we don't bother with a fridge we freeze ice in a freezer for a cooler. Though I've got to say this is the most reasonable and realistic provisioning I've ever seen. Canned meats, dry pack goods, and a couple of sweets! Vacuum pack the dry goods too with the instructions and you will be able to carry more by 30%-50%.

Most of the provisioning videos are people randomly throwing goods in to a shopping cart I think your one of the best ! What I would to see is someone actually planning ?

You are right about trying to spend money in the small communities in the Bahamas. Years ago, a retired friend was sailing there every winter, in 2000 the cruising permit cost $150. For 2001, the government doubled it to $300. He said he wasn't coming back. He said "what more am I getting for $150 more?". well, he was getting the country.

Thanks Richard, we all live on perceived budget, but how do you put a price on the beauty of this country?

We are headed there for a bit. What do the people in the Bahamas typically eat? I find if I just adapt to the locations eating style it goes better. Do they have any produce that is native to the islands? Is the rum local? What do they mix with the rum? Thanks! (That Gatorade might come in handy if you get Ciguatera)
@svthecrookedanchor Жыл бұрын
We picked up a Bahamian cookbook. Lots of beans, rice, chicken and fish. Rum was cheap, bring beer and everyone is your friend.

Looks great, let's estimate what it cost. Figure $10 per day per person, 90 days, 2 people $20 X 90 = $1,800. That seems high to me, but I have no idea what all those items cost. Bon voyage.

Just looked at your provisions video Wow 90% of your food seems to be sugar loaded stuff (drinks like Tang are like 100% sugar) as well as an overload on carb products I guess because I became a diabetic due to excess sugar consumption I am particularly aware of these products Simply put most of the food I saw was pretty unhealthy options!! Sorry but but with all that food your health is going to suffer! I am ignorant but is that what American people eat? Baffles me! Anyway happy cruising and I know you’ll be taking on fresh vegetables and fruit en route so that’s a good thing! Nick
@svthecrookedanchor Жыл бұрын
Thanks for feedback, we buy most of our proteins, fruits and vegetables in the Bahamas. The provisions we take with us are more economical in the states. What we showed in our video doesn't reflect a typical meal. Thanks again NevSau.
