It's in their deed agreement "no transients, no liveaboards" but those two restrictions make Pecan Grove the least hospitable marina I've ever heard of. I'm left wondering what's the point in buying a slip there?
@buffalomitch70883 жыл бұрын
In most of the world, eggs aren't refrigerated. Washing them (as the US does), washes off the natural coating that keeps them from spoiling (but makes them look nice). If you coat your eggs with something like Aquafor, it seals the pores in the egg and keeps it from going bad and there's no need to take up valuable fridge space. Safe journey Sam!

I would strongly suggest getting name brand and weight rated shackles for your lifeline. If you fall off the boat there's going to be several hundred pounds of force on that shackle and it would be a real bummer if it failed.

@theresedignard42673 жыл бұрын
I tried to point that out last week. The choice for attachment points concerned me too. The weight and the water’s drag can pull out any weak points. Having multiple points in the event one fails on impact with the water drag, speed of boat and Sam’s weight/drag…..ah! A math equation is in order. Am with you though…name brand matters with these items.

If you can find fresh 'farm' eggs (ie. non-store bought) you can generally safely store them without refrigeration. Just wash them a bit before using them. It is only because the industry washes the eggs that they end up requiring refrigeration.

If you buy your eggs unwashed from a farm, you can store them at room temp for at least 21 days! In european stores, eggs are not refrigerated! That helps with the space in the cooler and you can take more eggs!

Eggs in the US need to be refrigerated because of the way they're washed diminishes the shell. European eggs don't need to be refrigerated because they're not washed to the same extent so the shell is thicker. Probably another option would be a can of powdered egg which would be fine for scrambling.
@theresedignard42673 жыл бұрын
Those shutters look awesome. Great design. Ahhh! My provisioning curiosity is now answered. Interesting choices on grub. When you get to the islands and can get fresh eggs, you don’t need to refrigerate them. Fresh eggs can last for weeks without refrigeration. You could leave them out for two weeks to four weeks depending on if they have adequate air around them. Great to see you are underway. We will patiently await your updates. Wishing you safe passage. Next shall we expect you to surprise us with your declaring you are going to do a non-stop Circumnavigation? You amaze us and inspire us. :) What do you do for down time once daily projects are tended to? The extension on the dodger is unique. Love the rain capture idea. The design for t-shirts is impressive. Anxious for those to be sold.
@lloydChristmas-j6n2 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old vid. However, with your bimini between the dodger and panels … an old baton with 3d printed cup or receiver on the centerline of the dodger and solar arch would help keep the rain from pooling in the center. Maybe an augment for the future!

1 star review left for Pecan Grove Marina...✔️ check! I do not like hearing of people being treated like that. Especially someone like Sam. You mess with Sam, you mess with us!
@timshoaf12503 жыл бұрын
I actually talked to Sam at Pecan Grove. Nice guy. We also own a slip there where we keep our boat. It is a private marina not for transient use. I also happen to know the harbor masters. Great guys as well. They weren't "messing " with anyone. Sam was there in conflict of the rules. I believe Sam was unaware of the rules upon arrival and I know the dockmasters were patient and cordial with the situation. Unfortunately Sam took it personal. We have such a nice marina because our harbor masters do their job. Wishing Sam safe travels and sorry he feels slighted. Thanks to our harbor masters for trying to make the best of a touchy situation.

Yves chouinard was/is a climber & blacksmith. He invented/created equipment (pitons, etc) in camp as first ascents were happening in Yosemite during the 60s. The rest, as they say, is history. The point being, Sam can think, design and create equip as real time, real world needs dictate. All it takes is a clever, nifty do dad that every sailor needs to really get the ball rolling. Just make sure you have a good patent atty.

Too much lubricant is one reason winches can keep getting dirty, makes dust stick & i would try attaching the canvas to the top of the dodger, maybe it would help limit water from rain/waves dribbling down between the current gaps between the dodger and canvas.

for the winches I guess find a really good waterproof Grease that stands up to saltwater well. I'm sure there is a product out there that would be really suitable for saltwater. Maybe you could coat the sealing areas with PTFE paste and maybe you could find a good silicone grease the coat everything liberally with to displace and prevent water ingress if not the PTFE paste. Just trying to help...
