I get 13.81 kilometres approx per litre out of my BMW 1.8i X1 I’ve owed over three years. Bear in mind the S drive 1.8i is a very light engine. Half a 6 cylinder engine!! Theres no extra drive train -drag- to the rear wheels. The whole car is lighter in comparison to an equivalent four cylinder BMW X1 and in my opinion is well suited to town driving with occasional long distance runs. The engine uses BMW’s Valvetronic with Vanos system. So if you use harsh acceleration the engine will use a lot of fuel more even gentler acceleration will result in reasonable economy. The car when combined with the 6 speed dual clutch gearbox works exceptionally well in my opinion but also uses a coasting gearbox feature for when going down hill. So the dash gauge shows no fuel being used at the relevant time. The car is not the car for everyone if want lots of power the four cylinder petrol has more power and you can get it in either 2 or four wheel drive in the UK. I don’t know about anywhere else. The stop start button is hidden behind the steering wheel and can be a nuisance to see if you’re not sure it’s activated and you need to use more engine power quickly in some situations.
