I'm utterly mesmerized by the rich cultural tapestry of Catania showcased in this video. The juxtaposition of ancient ruins with bustling modern life, the tantalizing array of fresh seafood at the markets, and the architectural marvels like the Carl V gate - it's like stepping into a living museum of Sicilian heritage.

I like the way you present my city. Unfortunately my city has many problems, it is one thing to visit a city, it is another to live and grow up there. Catania could live on tourism, instead when I see that public transport is inefficient and a tourist is forced to rent a car to visit the towns near the city and even the island I get very angry. Fortunately there is the good side to tell and I am extremely happy that you do. Your videos are very useful for learning English. Thank you very much

Hey, glad to hear you enjoyed the video. This was my first time visiting Catania. I really enjoyed it. I've been living in Napoli for the last 8 years and have often thought about filming a video about what it is like to live here as opposed to just visit as a tourist. I didn't want to film all the roads filled with garbage and post that up though. I want to try and present the good side of Naples..and Catania. THanks for watching!

To be perfectly honest, this is the first Italian city I've seen that has architecture that truly pleases the eyes. I've been to the Eternal city, Florence and Venice. While the public important buildings are very beautiful the homes for ordinary Italians are quite ugly which makes me sad for them. This is the first place that I feel is alive and beautiful despite the graffiti. Thank you for the tour

I lived in Motta S' Anastasia from approx. 1968-1970. My husband was stationed at the US Naval Air Facility at Sigonella, Sicily. I was 19 years old and had never been out of the United States. Sicily was an eye-opener for me and a most unforgettable experience. At that time, Sicily was about 50 years behind the rest of the world. This video has been very nostalgic for me!! And I particularly love the sound recording of this video! A couple of times I caught myself turning my head to follow the authentic sounds!!

Wow, 19 and overseas for the first in Sicily. That must have been a real culture shock. I didn't even realize how close Sig is to Catania. I just looked it up for the first time now. Wonderful walk as always. I am sorry to see so much graffiti, (not that we don't have it in the US), but it's a pity the old buildings aren't more respected. What is the government take on graffiti (or tagging). Are there efforts to remove it or educate against it? Thanks as always!!!!
@ProWalks3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maggie, well I don't know the official government take on it...but things down here are pretty corrupt so taking care of graffiti is probably not high on any government official's list. There is no money in it. I know in Naples, there are a lot of small gangs of young kids, 12 years old or so, that cause a lot of the problems.
@maggiemcmac82733 жыл бұрын
@@ProWalks For a country that heavily depends on tourism, it can cause problems. Several friends visited Venice in 2019 during a trip to Italy. Their major take away was the unbelievable graffiti over everything. Not a good tourist memory and it has impacted my desire to visit Venice when/if tourism resumes.
@bunktwr2 жыл бұрын
I'm from Catania and, no, there's not any particular graffiti removal policy. It's the same as well in all our country. Rome and Milan are way more covered by graffiti BTW. I'dont actually remember how much graffiti you can find in Venice. The fact it's that even if you see historical buildings they're owned by private citizens so they don't feel the need to buff illigal graffiti by they own. I agree that illigal graffiti over historical buildings are really bad. But I don't condemn graffiti in general. They are, despite we like it or not, part of our era.
@michaelschneider4972 жыл бұрын
This is my city and I agree with you, it's a huge pity that there is not the police all around beating the bastards that ruin my city. But Catania is a place where there are not laws. Imagine a place where anarchy won and this is Catania. Who respect laws is seen like a dumb idiot and this is why I run away from my land. Hope one day someone will do something to train the people to be human beings and not animals but until now nobody did it and I'm forced to leave and find some respect somewhere else.
@krautgazer2 жыл бұрын
The illegal graffiti is unfortunate but it doesn't impact me from wanting to visit the cities at all. That's a very weird take, to be honest. There's so much to see and experience: history, culture, architecture, art, food, people, geography, nature, religion... Wall tagging is definitely NOT what's going to make me be away from all of that cultural richness. It's pretty insignificant in comparison.
