Wanted to say Thank YOU Jay! came across a BMW E46 that had this ring on the ignition switch. Customer's wife put that ring on the ignition one morning a week before, and when the customer went out to start the car, it wouldn't start. Customer's mechanic figured out there was something wrong with the EWS immobilizer system. When I got there, I remembered this video, removed the ring, inserted the key and started the car. The customer and his mechanic's jaws hit the floor!! Thanks again for sharing the knowledge!!! 👌

Ah.. the bling ring of job security. Making locksmiths look like rockstars 1 at a time 👍

It's all about the Bling. Have you seen the steering wheels with "precious stones" hot glued to them to create the right aura for the car? Basically turned the airbag into a claymore.

I have seen a couple along the way. I have to ask the people at the cell phone store if it bothers the cell phones when they stick them all over the outside ?? Hmm..

I’m a locksmith & just did my first 2016 Jeep renegade & I bought an aftermarket smart key & my Autel im508 told me I had to use an OEM key right before it got to part where it told to hit the unlock button on the smart key once I’ve never seen that before & it wouldn’t work so I’m ordering an oem jeep key for my customer & I’ll give it another shot when it gets here

I don't even bother with aftermarket on them anymore. I have couple videos with the same issue. OEM always walks right in.
@TheKeyMan12 Жыл бұрын
@@locksny yea I’ve noticed that… I don’t have any problems with aftermarket on other vehicles but yea your right oem is better
@locksny Жыл бұрын
@@TheKeyMan12 I keep OEM and aftermarket depending on what the customer can afford. I always try to use OEM as much as possible on everything.

@@locksny yea same here I keep a variety… every now and then I’ll get a customer that wants an oem key but most people want to get as cheap as they can get. Lol… the market is different all over the place, but if I do a smart key for one of those jeep renegades or for example or a 2015 dodge charger or challenger, etc. I get $250 plus tax here in Arkansas. Some people say that’s too cheap then you get those people that want to complain and I know it’s not cheap & I know it sucks to lose your key but its definitely a lot cheaper than the dealership.

The good aftermarket will work. Just stay clear of the cheap ones. Stratec and Ilco are o.k.

I’m yet to fun into the dreaded bling ring.;Surprised I haven’t seen more of them in Cali. Plenty of fuzzy steering wheel covers though! 🤣

Had a dealer get fooled by one of those..... I told them to remove it and they thought I was full of it. They finally gave up and customer called me. I pulled the bling ring off in the dealer parking lot and programmed a key right there. They asked me what I did to get it programmed.... I told them it was a trade secret. 😛😛

I have people install them and they think the key went bad.

Hello. can I ask? is it can add key with used key?
@firefighter12412 жыл бұрын
So that’s what Mopar needs to add to keep there vehicles from being stolen so fast. Not a program that totally blocks off adding anymore key to a vehicle.

Humm? If your erasing all keys, (all keys lost then you would not have a key to put by the ignition to press. Once all keys are erased, then when "learning a key" you would put the key to the prox and press it. I dont get why it would ask for a key, to erase stored keys....
@locksny Жыл бұрын
Maybe to make sure there is no key lost in the car ??
@mrdman094081 Жыл бұрын
It's trying to keep you from being stuck. If it erased and then you didnt have a valid key to add, ...

Was it easy to remove and did you put it back on? The bling ring
@locksny2 жыл бұрын
That one pulled right off, some of them are a pain to get off. I told them I removed it and why. Lady said she would get a "key fob not detected" sometimes. I told her that may be why. She left it off.
