Great content! I would love an in-depth video on Proxmox firewall setup as there are none on KZbin. The forums show that many have problems understanding and setting up the three different firewalls in Proxmox and consequently have connectivity problems. So my suggestion would be that you continue from where you left off in this video. Then set up the host firewall, the node firewall and then lastly the VM firewall so everything is secure, contained and working. Multicast is my main concern, as it really don’t work as it should. As no one has done a video like it I’m sure it would generate a lot of views.

Thanks for the prxomox series. I have Proxmox on Lenovo Tiny that has one SSD 250GB Kingston. I set it up about a year ago with a new SSD and now my Disk wareout shows 80% (Disks section). What does that mean?. Have I already used 80% of the available write blocks and when it reach 100% SSD life gone? Does this mean using a mechanical HDD is better for proxmox?. What about NVME SSD life. Much appreciate your thoughts. My main question is re what I setting up now. A little more powerful machine to migrate my VMs. In that I have 250GB NVME SSD where I have installed proxmox newly (ver 6.4). Installation is showing 58.07GB as local and 151.63GB as local LVM. I have another 500GB SSD. My question is why is proxmox showing only parts of 250GB NVME space under local LVM. Under Drivers section I can see both 250GB and 500GB. How do I add the second hard drive to resource pool or how can I make use of it to create VMs and also use to save backups. I am planning to add 7200RPM 1TB HDD too to the system. Need to understand how to do it. From your other videos I can see you have several drives in your set up but did not come across any explanation as to how you configure them etc to use in Proxmox. Thanks in advance for the assistance

Hi Tim, great video series I've really enjoyed it. Use VMware at work and loving that Proxmox fills the same role without the $$$... I have several Ubuntu servers that I've always wanted to virtualize. Been playing (breaking) with Proxmox building clusters, vm's, datastores, etc... so I have a thorough understanding before virtualizing my server environment. So my question is about when installing Proxmox you have the option to choose the filesystem (ext3 ext4 xfs or zfs). I am familiar with ext3 and 4 and have read up a little bit about xfs and zfs (just an FYI, I understand the raid levels associated with zfs), but what is the ramifications of choosing each of these for Proxmox...? Also, what is the default filesystem that is used if one isn't chosen and you take the defaults when installing? And lastly if you were to use different versions within a cluster what are the ramifications?More info: Currently I'm using Dell Optiplex 7040's with single disks but planing on buying a couple used PowerEdge servers.

Hi Tim! You said nothing else gets installed on the drive where you install ProxMox, so should that essentially be a tiny SSD? And if so, where do you install the various OSs of the virtualized machines then? Or, should I install ProxMox on a 1T drive, and then have the virtualized machines sitting on the same drive. Thanks for your advice!

So, once I have proxmox flashed to my USB using etcher, does it matter if I install proxmox to an external SSD? and can I run my OS's from the same SSD? Like, could I have proxmox on an external SSD and still be able to run an os on the same thing? or is proxmox literally just going to virtualize it and just use that drive as storage? I am pretty new to hypervisors like this and this seems to be the part of the process that I can't seem to wrap my head around.

Proxmox is a Debian based Linux system so you would either need to dual boot or build a workstation that passed through all your hardware to a guest that you can use as a desktop. I don’t recommend this though unless you know that’s what you want 😀

Tim, I am having a problem with ProxMox and Raidz. It seems like I am getting a 60% increase in storage usage then what I am actually putting in the VM. So... , what if I start with making 3 or 4 partitions and then install proxmox on the first partition. In my mind this should be working as the first drive is the proxmox drive and the 3 other partitions should be available for putting my iso's and vm's. Would this methode be working in case of proxmox ? Or do I really have to use two physical drives in that computer?

Actually, I use a desktop PC (installed with Proxmox) as a jump-box to connect to other devices and networks, so how to connect remotely via installed VMs inside this Proxmox PC to those networks? Knowing that I have two network cards installed in this PC, one as internet interface and the other as interface to those devices/networks? Thank you.
