I'm so lucky I watched this today ~ SERIOUSLY !! I just learned how fusion pulls in original files last night, and now today, I learned that I need to switch out of proxy mode when doing my colour grading... thanks so much J for being very thorough in your method of teaching.

I'm so happy this hit my feed today. I didn't know this was possible. I was seriously thinking about buying a new computer just to speed up my chuggy video editing! I do music and lyric videos and I haven't been able to tell if the video lines up with the music without exporting. THANK YOU!

Thank you for your detailed tutorial. This was extremely helpful for MultiCam. I now have five 4K angles playing back smoothly. Thanks again!

Great run-through of the proxy workflow. I think it might be worth noting that when the proxy files are being generated, the aspect ratio of your proxy clip is staying the same as the original. For example, a 5k 5120x2700 clip and it's quarter res counterpart at 1280x675, both have an AR of 1.9 (simply do a division sum to work this out). I know Resolve is taking care of that for you, but good to know if you find yourself having to work out what size to go to on your own.

Huh?

@@JayAreTV When you're talking about making the proxy files externally, you mention making sure the filename and the frame rate stay the same. I just wanted to point out that it's also important that the aspect ratio of your original size and the proxy size also matches, like in the example I gave. This is so any transforms you do to the proxies match up when you switch to the originals because the pixel information is relatively the same. Saves you potentially having to manually match scale/position changes by eye later on. That's what's happening when you selected 'quarter'. It isn't only just dividing by 4, it's giving you dimensions that carry the same aspect ratio.

Didn't know that fusion still uses the full res project size but with the low res file, that's cool. Also one thing to mention that confused the heck out of me to start with was that you need to watch your project resize settings when using half-/quarter-res proxies. If you don't have the project image scaling set to scale to fit, the proxies will only be in the middle of the screen and it'll be totally different when you switch to the originals. One thing I wish with Resolve is that the proxy generation could happen in the background. It doesn't let you do anything whilst it's transcoding. Obviously you can't start editing until it's done with the proxies, but it'd be great to set it transcoding and then also be able to carry on importing other assets to your project, or edit a totally different project whilst you wait. Would be even better if it came with a standalone transcoder like Adobe Media Encoder.

So if you have a remote editor, you can just send the proxy media along with the project file and they should be able to edit as normal? When the editor opens the project file, how do you link to the proxy files since the folder structure will be different?
@JunkBondTrader2 жыл бұрын
I think... you send them the proxies, they edit with them, and send you back the project, you open project, and link the real clips as proxies, and then when you render, select the box to render the proxies, which will actually be the real clips. Unless you are unable to render for some reason. Seems like a hassle though

@@JunkBondTrader Well, when your dealing with 150 gig of raw footage to edit...i can't think of any practical way to get them access to the files.

Bro my camera has in body proxies and man……. I can’t explain how happy I am. I don’t know how I put this off for so long.

I need to find a vid without explanation of proxies but a step by step checklist to set those files up and know that once editing there won't be a disaster because of a box I didn't check or where I dragged what. I have mostly Red raw files (6K) and a few Quicktime that are 4K.

How do you delete the Proxy's after your finished a project?
@JayAreTV2 жыл бұрын
That's up to you. If you go into your project settings you should see the location of the proxy media in the "working folders" within the "master settings".
