It is weird that it is your turn when you are the one doing the split. Anyone who has ever played the cards Fact or Fiction and Steam Augury in Magic the Gathering knows that the Split-Choose mechanic significantly advantages the Chooser. I think the player whose turn it is should be the advantaged one so the active player first passing the dice to their right, for them to roll and split, feels much more natural.

While true, the end result is effectively the same, as everyone has equal turns being both the one to split and choose, so at that point we're more just arguing semantics over who rolls the dice, something you could easily house rule without compromising the game!

I think I like the dice being divided 1:2 rather than 2:2, it'd just be better if the dice had some effects on them that amounted to more than just gaining a bun by picking one from any revealed area or at random. Since only the small red die has a random pick, it will rarely be wanted enough to be the lonely die, which means that it really just provides a set of random pulls. So then you have two dice that let you gain one bun, and a couple extra buns whose colour you don't know. Unless you draw grey, having more buns is always advantageous, so the only choice really being made is if you're close enough to victory, to not need extra random buns which may risk ruining your line or not. If the other dice where more restrictive so that you can measure your split by which roll allows them to take the things they might need and which one does not, I think the game would immediately become much more interesting. For example, having less buns on the matt in the center, or even having that number vary with taken buns staying removed but a way for players to put buns there being added; or for another roll I could see specifying that it's the player to your left or two to your right etc that you're taking from, rather than just any player. I could even imagine that a better way of utilizing the split is that the next player doesn't execute the di(c)e they took, but instead just don't reroll these on their own turn, before making their split and then using any dice they kept. To prevent two dice just never changing, it would probably make sense not to actually split them but for the next player to just always take one die, perhaps after you yourself "saved" one, setting them aside for you to definitely spend. Would also solve the issue in playorder.
