this is on one of the many mixed cds & tapes I made my daughter (starting when she was born) .. they all had empowering and self love themes. I knew she would get hurt from life and not always tell me.. but she could listen to these mixes and feel better about who she is. and know that she is imperfectly perfect to me.

Some of the songs were bobby Sherman's Mr sun, Shaun Cassidy its up to you, A good chunk of the touched by an angle sound track. I used to sing " I believe in you to her" Today Greer its all right to cry. Well actually much of my list is on a play list. Some songs are not this list because I could not find copies on you tube. When this song came out in 2000, everyone at my school was making fun of it, because it contained a taboo word: "gay." It was taboo to even publicly state that you liked the song because that somehow automatically made you gay. We all had to enjoy it in private, or face ostracism. - This song was ahead of its time. It's message is still relevant today.

Gay acceptance was finally becoming a thing at my high school in 2000. I think songs like this one and High School by Jeremy Fisher were things that helped normalize it. From my experience from the late 90’s to early 00’s there was a huge cultural change where it went from taboo to normal. It was a remarkable change of opinion. Some towns were just a year or two ahead of others.
