Hawaii's Pickle Lady

Sorry I forgot to say the amount for the sugar it is 1 1\4 cup of sugar.
The free giveaway for the shredder ends on January 28, 2021 at 11:59pm! The drawing will be held on a video and a winner will be announced.
This is an old time recipe that you never hear about any more. I've not seen it in stores, bakeries or restaurants. Biting into a piece brings back memories and there is a chunk of prunes in every bite.
The spices make it extra tasty.

Hello Lenora, I remember the Prune cake also. It was the only wedding favor back in the day. I recall it was also referred to the Groom's and ordered on a sheet cake. . Usually the night before the wedding they bridesmaids would get together with the bride and wrap individual piece of the cake in foil than a piece of netting was tied up with ribbon. One piece was never enough. Thank you for sharing Popo's Prune cake.

Born and raised in Hawaii, i remember my parents returning from two very fancy Kama'aina weddings and bringing my sister and me little boxes with what Mommy called "dream cake". We were supposed to put it under our pillow and dream about who we would marry. Yes, the box contained delicious Prune Cake which we were allowed to eat with breakfast in the morning. One wedding had the names of the bride and groom printed on the beautiful white boxes. I thought it was a lovely tradition, so did the same when I eventually married on the mainland in 1970. Maybe this was an old fashioned tradition in Hawaii, because none of my friends were familiar with it. I loved the tradition.

This cake came out moist and delicious! Very easy to make and not too sweet. I baked it in a regular loaf tin (9" x 5") and it took about 50 minutes. I put pecan halves on top for a little crunch. I will definitely be making this one again.

I was looking for a chocolate prune cake my mom once made. It resembles a brownie but isn't & feels & tastes like a rich decadent brownie but wasn't LOL I did however stumble across your video & became captivated over it. I bake similar to you so I figured I'd watch & Dang it, glad I did :) This recipe works very well for me since I love prunes a lot since I was a kid thanks to my Grandma who always had stewed dried fruit on hand when I visited & got mighty use to its dense earthy flavours vs the over processed almost tasteless fruit cocktail we buy at the grocery store. Since then I have loved dried fruit & only recently became aware of how versatile dried fruit really is & love baking with it & creating Turkish dishes with it. Your recipe kind of reminds me of the old recipe my Mom used for Hermit cookies. The spices are very similar & the fruit is usually raisins but I found any dried fruit works for this recipe which I believe date past the 1940's or as I called them Depression cookies. Anyway, I am certain the texture is similar where as the cookie had molasses in it making them very chewy & dense. If this cake is anything like that I will be making this Prune cake Often cause it reminds me of my Mother & grandmother when they baked like this. Thank you so much for sharing this video & recipe I will certainly be making it tonight or tomorrow.

I used your recipe but I added 1 cup of walnuts as my friends were requesting a prune and walnut cake. No other changes except for the walnuts. I used 2 8-inch pans but followed the temperature and length of baking time. It came out beautifully. Not too sweet and very moist. Love this recipe. i love toong mai .. made mochi crunch arare 😄 but not toong mai Japanese Rice Crackers 3/4 cup flour 3/4 cup mochiko 1-1/2 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 cup water Vegetable oil for frying >> Glaze 1/4 cup corn syrup 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup soy sauce Combine flour, mochiko, sugar, sesame seeds, baking powder and water to make a smooth dough. Add a little more water if dough is too dry. Flour work surface lightly with mochiko. Roll out dough in small batches. Dough must be very thin, almost paper-thin. Use a knife to cut into 1/2-inch squares. Heat oil to 375 degrees. Fry crackers in batches until golden brown on both sides. This will take just a few seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon or strainer, tapping the sides of the fryer to remove excess oil. Drain on paper towels. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Place cooled rice crackers on a cookie sheet. To make glaze: Combine corn syrup, sugar and soy sauce in a pan and bring to boil over medium heat. Cook until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to thicken, about a minute. Do not overcook or the glaze will be difficult to spread. Pour glaze over rice crackers and mix to coat evenly. Work quickly, as glaze will harden as it cools. Spread crackers into a single layer and separate pieces. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, until glaze is set and crackers are dry but not quite crisp. They will harden and get crispy as they cool. Do not overbake or glaze will burn. Makes about 100 rice crackers.

Right now I looked again, but just found how you started KZbin, etc., but no recipes. But I found two wonderful prune cake recipes on-line so I won't need your's any more - both of these have exact ingredients so it will be easy to make.
