you can also try griddling the trunk and branches, forcing it to flower. At 24 ft, it is rather tall to try harvesting the fruits if/when they fruit. So hacking it down to a more mange able size around 10-12 ft is better for easier fruit harvest and pruning the tree into a compact size. They also like full sun, any shaded part of the tree, will not flower at all. They also love water in the spring and summer months, not so much in the winter(rot root will set in for too much watering). GL

(cont) fruit trees and not tropical like mangoes. They need some chill hours in the winter months to help the spring flowering. So, if you can grow and fruit mangoes, then longan should be fine too. but however, if you're in a tropical place, that doesn't usually drop below 45F(i think 4-5C?) very often. That really depends on was your longan tree from seeds or a grafted/air layer nursery bought longan tree? Seedlings/seed grown longan tree won't likely fruit till they're 10+ years old. A friend from Florida's longan tree, started to fruit for the first time at 15 yrs old. but, they can be sooner than that too,someone, I know in Mexico, his fruited at 5 yrs from seeds. It also depend on weather/climate, location of the tree and the watering pattern. Longan/lychee are subtropical(cont below)

I have a 3 yr old longan tree. Last summer, I got few fruits but winter came, the tree was died. However, It has grew backs this year. I live in Houston, TX (USA) and the weather is unpredictable. Sometimes, it goes below 30F. I don't know what kink of material use to cover the tree during winter time. is there any suggestion, please advise. Thanks!

is there hope for a 13 year old longan tree, around 8 meters (24 ft) in height to fruit? can i prune/cut it to to about 1 1/2 meters in height to induce fruiting? it has not bear any flowers nor experience pruning.
