Nigel, Your comments about keeping these plants moist is valid. We grow many of these as bonsai here in s.e. Florida USA. Mine are watered daily. You should be getting some beautiful flowers on your mature plant. Even as seedlings these flower prolifically during the spring and summer months. They make very nice bonsai. Thanks for sharing your work on this one.

The mimosa trees are also known as the Persian Silk tree which is a far more romantic and historic common name for them. It harkens to the silk road used in antiquity that snaked from China to the near east. I can't help but fantasize over them every time I look at mine.

What a cool tree! Pretty Painted Lady too. Leaves are beginning to pop here now. When I drive to the city, you can see the green just showing in the distance.

Salud. 🙇♂️

These grow like weeds here, I’ve collected 4 from my pots & now grouped together. They were allowed to grow tall to get thick trunk, which has been achieved IMO. Next step would be have it branch like yours ❤

I don’t understand. Why would you want such a porous soil if the plant likes moisture?
@lindagregory66267 ай бұрын
it is always better to use porous soil most plants do not like wet feet
@TheBonsaiZone7 ай бұрын
It allows me to water and fertilize more! The roots prefer a free draining soil also, too much moisture is as bad as too little! I can always put a tray of water under the pot in the hot summer to help retain moisture if I need too.

Please help, everyone. New to calliandra and I hope you all can help me. I have read the few articles I can find about it as bonsai. Most say they grow and bloom all year and can be kept indoors. Pruning can be done whenever. But one very extensive article says pruning can only be done in dormant winter period. Is this a fact? @TheBonsaiZone
