Pruning Group 2 & 3 Clematis || Spring Cleaning My Border 🌷🌷

Spring is finally here!!
Today I am pruning my group 2 and group 3 clematis for the first time since I planted them all last year.
I have done my research because I have 12 clematis in total and hoping they will all look fabulous this year.
I also decided to completely remove my Salvia Hotlips as, although they usually last a few years with proper pruning to rejuvenate them, unfortunately mine got hit in the snow and did not look as if they were going to perk up. So I’m afraid they have gone!!
I also tidied up one of my favourite plants, which are Heucheras, and I have a particularly lovely one called Heuchera ‘Dark Secret’ in this particular bed.
So, the border around my fountain is now all lovely and tidy and ready for Spring and some new plants as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer.
Very exciting times ahead ... best time of the year in my opinion. 🌷🌷🌷

The look on Richard's face was priceless......like "I could have sworn there were more plants in this border"... Borders look so nice after a good clean out and of course they show you where your gaps are so that you can plan a visit to the local garden centre to fill said gaps 🤣

Hi Janette great educational video 👍 every year I forget which group clematis I have, and, annually have to go back to look up the plant labels. Think Its time for a labelling system 🤔 I have three clematis and so far this year have not pruned either. So pleased they survived the long harsh winter, I'm just letting them get on with life.🤗 Thanks for sharing, enjoying the lighter nights already extra time in the garden. Bfn.🐞🌻🌱

Wow that’s some serious wind 💨 and so happy it’s spring 🙌🏾🙌🏾, this is the perfect weather for spring cleanup and pruning the plants I’m doing the same thing in the garden and you so right gardening sometimes you just have to make changes in the garden specially for the plants that don’t perform ❤️❤️❤️.

Hi Janette I know how you feel about the dead plants. This last winter has been very cold. I cleaned up my deadwood ready for the surge in growth. Yes, Richard, a garden is never finished but that keeps our interest going. There's not much in the supermarkets in the way of plants.

Hello Jen, I’m loving all your videos too! I think it’s actually a lot easier to figure out than we think ... early ones are group 1 (don’t prune at all), May & June are the 2s and later are the 3s. But we will see if I’ve done it right 🤞 if not there’ll be no flowers 🤣🤣

I planted my 1st clematis in the fall " Acropolis " There were no signs of life, I was worried it didn't survive our Pennsylvania winter. Lo and behold, today I saw 6 tiny shoots emerging, they weren't there yesterday

My clematis is spindly on the bottom and full on the top so I will go out there a d give it a good pruning. I never touched it before because I was too afraid 😅 I think this is its 2 or 3rd year of trying to leap! Thank you for the great tips as always I enjoyed 😍

That’s hilarious Chris. Richard is a great singer, he actually puts on shows, cabaret style, and sings Rat Pack style, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin all that sort of thing, but hasn’t done any shows for the past year because of lockdown. We both used to be in an operatic society too for many years and we did musicals in our local theatres. Was a lot of fun but took up so much of our time. 🎶🎶🎶
