Love the idea of theme days. I have some Adenium obesum, Crassula ovata and Portulacaria afra so Sundays sounds like a good addition.

It's amazing that you were able to grow this lovely tree from seed. Through your nurturing it has developed into a beautiful specimen.

Thanks for sharing. It’s been very hot and dry here in northern Oklahoma. It’s been getting 100 to 106 F daily here for a while. The weather man is saying we will have a high here Tuesday around 110+ with no rain in sight. My trees are surviving well so far thanks to your tips on summer bonsai care. I enjoy your videos and thanks again for sharing.

Is it ok to defoliate ficuses every year, maybe even twice? I feel like it might make sense, if my ficuses are vigorous, to just prune off the indoor leaves before I put them out in the spring, and outdoor leaves before I bring them in for the winter… Or is that too much stress on the trees?
@Yurup2 жыл бұрын
Only way to tell is by looking at your tree. How healthy is it? But the real question you should be asking is: Why would you? What purpose would it serve to defoiliate that much?
@jamesn71562 жыл бұрын
@@Yurup Mostly ficus macrocarpas and they are always very vigorous. My intention would be to get rid of indoor leaves to avoid burn in the spring and get rid of beat-up outdoor leaves in the fall when they come inside. I’ve only defoliated a few times and usually when they get a hard prune.

I’m sure the answer is out there somewhere… This isn’t a green island microcarpa is it? Leaves look thinner.
@dk26142 жыл бұрын
Green Island is a cultivar that grows as a uniform shrub roughly 3-4' tall and round at full maturity. It's a true Ficus microcarpa which means small body( referring to the size of the fruit). But Green Island is a dwarf among giants. As a drawf it's leaves are smaller only 3/4-1" long and thinner. The leaves also grow very densely along the stems. There is no mistaking Green Island ficus with the straight species. Also the growth even in optimal conditions is slow I only get about 2-3" of growth a year. In the ground in the tropics it might get to 6" or more per year. I hope I wasn't rude in my reply. My apologies if I was. I'm a bit of a tree nerd that relishes the trivia....
@thomasgordon44352 жыл бұрын
@@dk2614 thanks for the reply! So what variety would this one be?
@dk26142 жыл бұрын
@@thomasgordon4435 so in the practice of keeping plants a variety is a broad term that can mean different things in different context. However more specifically a cultivar or cultivated-variety means something more specific. Especially in the case of trees a cultivar is a tree that is cultivated or propagated or cloned for the purpose of multiplying the tree usually for commercial purposes. Since this tree of Nigel's was grown from a seed by himself it is a unique genetic individual that he has called Ficus fancy. Now officially if he were to try to market that try or it's clones he would be best served to register the name of that tree or patent it. But since Nigel has grown this from seed and named it Ficus fancy that is indeed the cultivated variety name. Pretty cool right?! You discover a tree you get to name it!

Could you put some soap in mister mister?
@Yurup2 жыл бұрын
The soap will have to be rinsed off because its not good for the leaves. So thats a bad idea.
