I would recommend planting this tree in a large long conventional pot giving it alot of nitrogen and cutting it every 3 months to keep it in check, then after 5 years you should have a great thick and large tree with alot of branches to work with.

Happy New Year Nigel. I received a Toronto bonsai show calendar yesterday signed by both yourself and Jay - it made my day and was a great end to 2022 and start to 2023 from two of the nicest guys in bonsai. All the very best to you, your family, your animals and your trees for 2023 😊🎉🥂 Great things ahead in the coming year. 👍

May your trees stay healthy and stay firmly bent or straight May free drainage and nutrition be supplied by your substrate May your plants survive summer heat and winter cold May your designs, chops and wiring, and desires be bold May your tools stay sharp and shiny bright May your yamadori be easily dug and for transport quite light May your dream greenhouse or cold frame or bonsai stands miraculously appear May we all share green thumbs, prosperity, great health and share our good cheer! Whichever year you are celebrating, may be it a Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from sunny Australia! Looking at that big scar on the back, I wonder if you would consider grafting a branch there. It would help with the ramification as well as hasten the healing of the scar. It is a technique that I have seen and read about, but not yet tried.

Hey nigel very helpful video as always. I cant stand when maples have these really long sections with no buds. Now do u think it would be ok in the winter to take some of those thin branches u cut off and graft them to those sections? What would u do if u had a long section with no buds anywhere in sight? Thanks
@jamesn71562 жыл бұрын
How long do the nutrients stay in the rain water when you store it? Beyond summer rains, I typically use tap water and my ficuses seem ok by that. If I do start to collect rainwater, does it has an expiration for it’s benefits over tap water?

Happy and healthy new year Nigel! Great video. I have a few Norway Maples and Douglas maples, I like the challenges they bring myself. Got a question: what do you mean "rubber cement"? Is this like "contact cement"? Could you tell me what brand it is? Thanks in advance. Cheers!
@TheBonsaiZone2 жыл бұрын
Yes, contact cement!!

Hi Nigel, Happy New year! Why are you sealing the cuts? I don't remember you doing it in the past. What made you change your technique?
@TheBonsaiZone2 жыл бұрын
I like the rubber cement, it's clear and flexible and you can see what is going on with the wound! Other cut pastes hid everything and usually become hard with age. It was an accidental discovery and I like it!!

So is it usually pretty safe to prune deciduous during winter while they’re dormant? I’m pretty familiar with topicals but my deciduous trees I’ve started as bonsai have been hit or miss

Sir I desperately need help with my junipers bonsai I’ve almost killed her I didn’t realize the soils dries out so quickly google said mist it and I didn’t realize the top stayed moist but in the pot deeper dry and her ferns whatever their called dried and felt like stickers I’m not giving up please help me save her, 🙏🏻
