Great looking little trees, you mentioned about putting them in a forest setting but scale might be an issue because they are similar sizes, is it important that bonsai forests are monoculture couldn’t you put different jades together or even add an elephant bush as well, I think the mix of species would be interesting.

Great question and observations! You can certainly do a mixed forest and many bonsai folks enjoy them. I’ve seen some very cool mixed tree forests and they can work very well. I’ve been thinking about creating a forest that contains a mix of Portulacarias - it would be interesting to have such a variety of plants as you point out. So, nothing wrong with a mixed forest at all, it’s very creative. Most forests do seem to be one type of tree, but it’s completely acceptable to mix them as well. Best of luck and thanks for the great comments.

I hope you do make a mixed Portulacaria forest you have some of the nicest trees I’ve seen, I particularly love the cork bark variety. Some interesting projects in the pipeline, it’s really exciting 👍
