Ms. Sheng, why do you think there is such a big difference in the practice of bonsai vs arborculture in pruning cuts? I.e. Arborist's best practice is to preserve the collar while bonsai practitioners will go as far as to use concave cutters, depending on the genera, in order to end up with a flush wound.. Is it solely the size of the cuts being made? I see an emphasis on preserving the collar because it has 'stuff' in it that helps in wound defense and compartmentalization.. what is this stuff?? I've learned that there are higher concentrations of meristematic tissue at the nodes than the internodes - is this what is being referenced? Thank you for the videos and your time!
