Also, it's interesting to see how full you fill the water glass. I've always been told you had to cut closer to the node on the bottom, and then only put it in water about 1/4inch above the node, or else the stem will rot. But I really don't like cutting that close to the node! I've lost cuttings that way because there's no room to cut off any rot. I'm trying it your way this time!! 😊

Thank you for your video. You made my day! I bought this plant as a Philodendron ´Cobra´ and rooted it in wetted sphagnum moss. I am sure it is a monstera and not a philodendron, because philo´s have a ´brown head thingy´ where a new leaf will sprout from.

Great video and explaining as usual =) I tried rooting(in water) the thinner runners(about 12 of them, cut them the approx. same length as you did) when the weather was colder in February and they all died but one. Even had a proper grow light shining down on them. Tried again a month ago and kept them on a window sill right above a radiator and within a week they all started giving off roots. Is heat a more important factor than light when it comes to rooting?

I am petrified to cut my Standleyana because I only have one vine that's about 16-20 inches long. However, I tried air layering it and it worked and now I need to cut it off. My question is: will the area of the mother vine grow a new growth point where I cut? I am so scared that I won't get new growth at the cut point of the mother plant.

Hey there Wesley, I just got my MS (M. Standleyana) in the post 2 days ago and figured out what I bought when I started my researching ... I had bought it as Philodendron Cobra ... very puzzling at first. But knowing it is a Monstera kind of sounded to me like an easy plant to care for as I grew up with Monsteras (deliciosa) left right and centre, however, today I decided to see what the youtube community is doing with these gorgeous MS and that's when I saw your clip... In my inexperienced opinion I think your Scindapsus and MS are both lacking in sufficient light, it looks to me like the space between leaves on the Scindapsus is a bit too long, and it may be the reason why the MS has only produced length without foliage in hope to get to a light source faster... I'm only speculating here. I have seen on other climbers in lower than required levels of light that often the nodes were there but the foliage was poor or insignificant and the intervals very elongated ... I mean this as friendly conversation, please don't take me wrong, after all this is my my first ever MS. I would very much like to ask you what has become of the cuttings you took of your MS, if you made a follow up video or have pictures and if you would consider sharing your results. Thx

Your reply is very encouraging. I do have a tiny problem 🤦‍♂️ with plant addiction and hoarding so spots with good light are very crowded indeed, my landlords freak out when they visit 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (its all amicably really) I certainly am enjoying...
