I have been using the Prusik knot for over 50 years and it has never failed me. I used it while climbing and have only recently started using it for horizontal (like ridgeline) applications. I've never used the two-loop version as I have always preferred the additional safety factor of that third loop.

I saw a man paint a flagpole, he tied two prusik knots around the flagpole, one used for a seat and one used for his foot he climbed to the top painted the ball on top with spray paint then worked his way down painting with a brush. He drove around the country living in his truck and made money painting poles.

👍👍Yep. One of my favorite knots. One of the first ones I learned here back in the day and works a treat for tarps. The Wendell's too with the taught line hitch. It was kinda frustrating as a young man long ago not knowing the skill of making proper knots. Particularly on moving day trying to secure the load or unlash 5 deep discombobulated modified granny knot puzzles lol. I do appreciate Y'all for the help. 😎

Well presented Dave. And, it works best if the Prusik loop's line is of smaller diameter than the main line, or the same diameter.

If you know the direction of travel, I prefer a klemheist or distal. The prusik is omnidirectional but can work itself in so tight it becomes hard to move and being omnidirectional when not worked in slips easier because it only has half the loops working in your favor. Knowledge is the easiest thing you can carry.

Of all the knot videos I have seen, you are the only one who mentioned the loop knot should be on the side and why! It is important for people to understand that knots can weaken your line's strength, sometimes more than you can really afford...

It is not the strongest area of the rope so you dont want all the pressure directly on it, think of it like a repair, you would not want undue stress on any area you have repaired that may be weaker than the whole

The funnest thing about cordage & knots is discovering more ways to use them. Once I learned the prusic, I completely stopped putting loops in my cordage (except for bowlines, duh).

Hello one Information that most people leave out is choice of ropes. Maybe you could clarify. Not all ropes are equal or made to do the same tasks. I have tied prusick loops to some paracord and they have slipped because the road was to slippery.

Dave. Going through your older trapping videos you metioned that a number 1 or number 11 could potentially catch a coyote have you ever been successful in that? Do you think you could catch a beaver on the front foot with one? Im really curious! For a long term kit if i could get away with 110s and #1 longsprings would be amazing im a very bad coyote trapper but i do alot of muskrat and beaver let me know what you think!
