As you steer it will undo & turn back & forth on its thread. Not supposed to work that way . I made a steel ring used 5mm round bar . No need for thread . So supplied lock ring then lock ring you make then screw bottom assembly on then lock together ya feel me.

Two questions 1.Will adjusting the coil over preload to wrench width reduce the stiffness? (mine came preloaded, and I think I might have to loosed the preload) 2. Will adjusting the coil over preload mess with the alignment if its already on there? I know ill have to lift the car up, i seen you reply below. Thanks for that.

Where do I start? This is misinformation. To a point it's almost 90% incorrect. You DO NOT see quality coilovers (KW, MCS, JRZ, AST) use independent shock mounts. Cheap coilovers do tho, and the shock mounts from these cheap coilovers should be used to tune bumpstops (in this case lack of bumpstops). So your tires won't contact the fenders when your shocks bottom out. You absolutely should use "preload" (more like spring perches) to adjust ride height. The expensive coilovers I mentioned only use spring perches to adjust ride height. In your case, if you concern about main springs getting loose by not having enough "preload", you should look into a set of helper springs. My biggest point. What happens when you thread that shock mounts all the way up for lower ride height, but then you hit a large bump on the road? Your shock will continue to travel upward, you either get spring binding or your tires will try to go through your fenders. Bad juju my man. Be better

Do not buy MaxpeedingRods Street coilovers - they are cheap. but if you want to lower your car, the rear will end up HIGHER then before. The rears are way too long and have very little adjustment. A 1999 Miata ended up with lowering the front by 1/2" and RAISING the rear 1" above the OEM strut height.

I took a punt and ordered the T7 'track spec' versions for my E36. And you're absolutely right, the rears ended up higher than OEM. Looked ridiculous. The springs were too long for their hard rate. They sent me shorter dampers but the problem was I needed to compress the springs far too much (too much preload) and the height was set by the dampers so they topped out and made the ride undriveable. I bought another set of lowering springs from a different manufacturer and now the rears are good.
