Hey Seso! I think there is a better way to solve the problem with the colour fill + a pattern or a gradient fil + a pattern. If you use for example a colourfill on a layer, just press control G to group it and make the pattern on the layer styles of the group. And btw I think it is nice to know that you can use the shortcut control + alt + shift + e to create a layer that contains all other layers. That's the short form of select all press control j and then control e. Lg Fyan!

i think you have more control about the base colour, otherwise, you can change it on a hard way. And you can use this method to give the pattern a gradient or a colour. I think thats quicker and you can easier control the colour fill or gradient.
