When me and my little brother were young kids, our older sister's boyfriend would frequently burn PS1 games for us to play on our chipped Playstation. And as you can imagine, we had hundreds of them. The day we finally got the Dual Shock controller, we were so thrilled to finally be able to try out Ape Escape. I have mentioned the word 'timeless classic' many times before in the channel's history, but man, this the one. This, is the masterpiece. Pure and simple. I freaking dare you to play this game, you will cry tears of nostalgia even if it's your first time! Also, why this game is not included in the Playstation Classic list is a complete mystery to me!!

I watched a friend play this when i was 5 when it had just come out and never forgot it...i randomly suddenly just remembered this game about a boy with a net chasing monkeys and wanted to make sure it wasnt a manufactured memory lol

Aww yes, it's the UK voice version. So much better than the US one, especially Specters voice. EDIT: I just love the atmosphere this game sets. Little moments like 03:23:14 - Where the music abruptly stops and echoes out, and the black borders appear, you know you're in for a good spectacle. Or 3:59:07 - All happy music and fun. But then at 03:59:18 you're given a cutscene and plunged into relative silence. 04:03:10 How the music starts up after the monkey hits the alarm. 03:50:54 - How the music fades away, and then specters voice is heard, as the camera pans around trying to 'find' him always sets a good mysterious vibe too. Maybe I'm going on a bit too much. But I really believe that sound design is some of the most influental parts of a game.

@GameGamer Did you use two different versions of Ape Escape to record this? Why do the names of the levels change? ( 1:38:48 , 7:53:15 ) Is this normal for the PAL version?

I think this is normal. On your first timestamp you fight Buzz. The next time you revisit, it's the same level but without Buzz. Hence the title change, hope that helped :)

@@GameGamer But isn't that still Monkey Hot Springs? You load into Monkey Hot Springs after selecting Buzz Attack Part 2, when that's supposed to be the next level. Also at 1:54:27 the level is called "The Great Wall of China", but at 7:58:06 it's just "The Great Wall". I'm so confused.

Looks like you've discovered a bug actually. Buzz Attack Pt 1 and 2 are distinct looking levels with tan colored platforms. This is certainly 'Monkey Hot Springs' highlighted. It's even still listed under 'Ice Age' where as the Buzz Attack level s are listed under Dimension X. I own the PAL version of the game and have never noticed this. However, perhaps it only happens on a first playthrough? I think you've noticed an incredibly rare, yet harmless software bug.

I went looking for the gameplay of this game out of pure nostalgia but I came across a lot of gameplay with the different voices of the characters, I started to think that I had forgotten the voices, but deep down in my mind I was absolutely sure that the voices were different. Only today in 2022 I found out that I always played the PAL version and not the American one, thank god I played the best version in my childhood, the voices match much more with the characters.

It is because of the region, this is PAL, I'm guessing you live in NA? :) It's weird though, and they did the same thing with Gex 3, changed voices and all!

Okay so i've played the uk and American version. Not only is the American different in language. This version is faster (running, hitting, catching, everything), hitbox is a little smaller, hit recovery is faster. No offense but if you want the best experience i'd say play the american version for sure.. What a waste of my childhood the uk version was sh*t xD

​​@@GameGamer I got littarly goosebumps because of this analyse.. What the xD.. Its kinda amazing how a game changes because of that. You should look it up yourself. If you buy the ps4 ape escape 1 game you can switch any time you want between the 2 versions. Spike runs 30 percent faster(i tested it). Now from what i think happend is that the game devs said to the uk devs: okay you can sell this game in your country but you need to change the title texture, frame data and the type design letters+ voices and a different voice acting crew else you cant sell it in eu. OR the EU Pal versions had difficulty with the frame data of america wich is obiviously faster.. so they needed to turn it down by a few frames and still had to change the voice's + design of titel screen and in game texture.
