Wow! I've been using MechaPwn to play PS1 and PS2 imports, but I didn't know that it lets you play PS1 backups as well!

look mom, it’s me also by the way, this just disables region checks which is what the ps1 security relied on so you can also play ps1/ps2 imports

In my case on my SCPH50001 it failed no matter what the MechaPwn said, heck, it even failed to boot original discs after using it, so... I'll have to stick with the existing compatible solution without mod-chip or just straight up rely on my soft-modded Ps3 Slim for Ps1 games or find a way to fix my fat PS1 drive to read discs again, but I guess I need a full replacement of the drive (is of the 75000 model series for my Ps1) Edit: Using POPStarter is currently my best way to play on console the Ps1 version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, because on my Ps3 it crashes whenever it has to load the continue screen whenever you lose against the AI or a match ends in a PVP mode (of course, using special files to fix the game issues on the Ps2 emulator).

you can still play PS2 backups with MechaPwn too, but there's a few extra steps. first off, MechaPwn breaks DVD-Video playback so once you do this mod, kiss all your ESR and/or FDVDB-patched backups goodbye. thankfully, you can burn new backups, but patch the ISO as a MASTERDISC instead of ESR or FDVDB. this means you can load PS2 backups straight from boot (as long as you have fastboot enabled on your FMCB memcard) even on a MechaPwn'd console, without needing to Force Unlock it. the masterdisc method is a MUCH better option for PS2 backups under MechaPwn than doing the full Force Unlock, because Force Unlock also breaks PS1 games. playing a masterdisc PS2 backup on a non-Force Unlocked MechaPwn unit, however, will never break PS1 games.

MechaPWN BLEW MY MIND!!! Someone mentioned in the comment when I posted one of my original PS2 videos, so I immediately had to go learn about it and try it on my system! Here's the follow-up episode where I covered it, still shocks me that this is even possible! 🤯 kzbin.infood_KQaAL1_0

DVD video is not broken if you use latest RC and dont pick force unlock On older versions the DVD player software would shut down itself because it detected that the console model string on eeprom started with DTL-H Wich made the DVD player think the console was an actual test model. Disabling itself because test models dont even have the ROM chip that holds the built-in DVD player software On the RC versions, the model string is kept untouched.

I didn’t know you could play ps2 backups at all, and I installed mechapwn on my console. how exactly do I go about playing ps2 backups? how do I patch a iso as master disk? Do I just need to burn a game to a DVD then put it in my ps2 ?

@@burritomaster6000 keep in mind that some games might not work with the patcher, which means some games just aren't playable under MechaPwn as backups just yet (MottZilla is really good at listening to feedback so if a game doesn't work you can always let them know on their support thread and they'll probably fix it for the next version). but the large majority of games ARE playable this way.

@@caifabe8050 figured it out and tried playing Silent Hill 3, FMVS were skipping and everything took 5 minutes to load, rendering the game unplayable. what’s the website which reports what games work or not?

I think this also works with backups for ps2 dvd based games, but I haven’t tried it. However, I did try it with a totally not pirated copy of eyetoy tales, which if you don’t know is a cd based ps2 game, and it thinks this is an ps1 game. So I have to use esr just so the game works. I don’t own an eyetoy camera.

PS2 backups work great! I haven't experimented too much with them personally, as PS1 titles were my big goal, but for those than want to go that route it's a great option ✌️😎
