One thing that I am really getting just from these shorter weekly lessons is that while these figures may be used as "fills" as such, they also serve to break up the time while still keeping proper form with respect to clave. That's a rare thing to see, an approach like that, whereas many people tend to get caught up in the technical aspects of the ritmo or toque and struggle to get themselves out of it. The fact that you are teaching it, and the way that you are teaching it, can only be a positive thing for those of us who strive to better ourselves as drummers/percussionists on a daily basis.
